The engine is a shovelhead from the 60's to around early 80's
That's when AMF bought them they like to went bankrupt. A friend of mine's father was an HD dealer he closed his dealership. He was only selling around 1 or 2 a month. Harley bought them back in the early 80's I think.

But once I put it back together and painted it red it sold to the first person who looked at it

I said it was a sportster. They came out with the sportster in '58 that was a panhead that ran until they changed motor types I was just distinguishing between the types. They also make an evolution sportster starting in '85
