Stick Marsh Now and Then

How is the Stick Marsh fishing these days compared to years ago? Has the habitat there been altered recently?
Also,,what year did it open for fishing? I do not hear much about it anymore. Are they still constructing the 2nd phase right next door as I saw on Rick Murphy's show?

It opened to the public in 1989- 1990 and only was accessable over a steep muddy embankment with a cartopper or canoe. Back then you knew why it was called the stick marsh. The north lake was a heavy thicket of trees and heavy shrub brush making it difficult to get thru. 150 bass days were common then and the limit on specks was 50 per angler and limit catches were common in the spring. Only way into the farm 13 side was dragging your boat over the levy that still separates them. The opening at the west end only came a few yrs. later. Nature has done most of the altering by rotting of the trees and brush over the years causing the trees to fall. A good reason to use caution on the stick marsh side unless you like to replace lower units or repair holes in fiberglass bottoms. Understand that the new lake to the east will possibly open at the end of this year. By spring it will probably be as good if not better then farm13/stick marsh was back when it opened in 1990. The stick marsh was never intended to be a fishing lake and never stocked, it just happened due it's fertility. The new lake has been planed and prepared and stocked.

Sounds like the spec and bluegill fishing is doing fine lately. But getting there going down that terrible long dirt road will rattle your tow vehicle and boat/trailer like crazy.
