Is it legal to carry lead slugs while waterfowl hunting?
I read the law to say I can't carry lead shot, but can't get clarification if slugs are considered shot.
One of the places I hunt has a lot of hogs running around & it's "shotgun only".
Just figured a few slugs in my bag could turn around a crap day with no ducks.
I did get an email back from FWS stating that lead slugs are considered shot & illegal to possess.
I've seen the non-toxic sabots, but I'm using a smooth bore shotgun & would need rifled slugs. Winchester used to make one, but I'm not sure if they still do, can't find them anywhere.
Sadly, common sense says I wouldn't be trying to take down a teal with a 1 ounce slug. But, as we all know, the laws are never written based on common sense.
Don't think the Remington has a sabot...thinking Winchester also makes one. Do not forget...do not use your Duck choke with slugs. You could carry riffled choke tube
