Went out solo on Sunday. Caught 3-4 keeper red grouper (could only keep 2) 8 miles out. Went out to 9 mile and a few more big red grouper and a smoker king. Probably 50-60 18-20" red grouper. Still trying to find the gags but too late now. Bait was cut ladyfish for the grouper and a live blue runner for the king.

Awesome. I love those autumn smokers that crash the one hail mary blue runner you should always keep out while drifting for Grouper. Great eats there.

I thought red grouper was closed until the end of the year.

It is closed in Federal waters (out past 9 miles } but open in state waters

Thanks Spiney for fixing the pic. Yes they are open in state waters out to 9 miles and there are plenty of keepers around 8-9 miles out. Open again in Federal waters Jan 1st. Live biat on the bottom has been going untouched but fresh cut bait and squid get slammed.
