West End 1st Run

Was supposed to be a week or two ago but wind got in our way... Ready to rock for departure tomorrow... 42 gets the call for this one and plan is to run and dial in spread we will be using at smackdown on the 48. Buddy from Jersey made me up a sweet set of plastic to run. It looks good to me and hope this time tomorrow night to be reporting about them wrecking the hoos...

Cleared customs in record time... Topped off tanks and burned 50 gal less than last crossing. Good start? Gets better. Put four in the box in short order. Let go a pee wee and had a 50+ to top the take... Rain squall washed the boat for us and dinner was good except for tem running out of peas and rice...

I'm beginning to have doubts about your story. A Bahamian restaurant running out of peas and rice???? Sounds like a good trip so far.

Day 2 was a lot less eventful. Water dirtied up. I could read hoos hanging in a few different spots but they really had lock jaw. We did pick one and missed two but in general it sucked. Water not only dirty but weeds were making it tough to get to the edge. To make that worse we could see frigate bird in the thick area of weed having a picnic. Add in rising water temp conditions really were nowhere to be found.

Day three was another dud. Horrid weeds and patches of dirty hot water made for small areas we could work only to close out and force us to bust through miles to find more small clear spots. To make that worse we saw some hoos skying out here and there and couldn't draw a bite. At one point I got pushed to 755 feet where we had a bite... Looked back to se some thrashing and hard to make out what had bit. Got it closer... A little bitty sailfish had decided to try out our offering and wound up having a bad day. Small or not it was the boss's brother's first one so it made our day. Literally cause that was the only bite!
Ran into slip kid ar dinner. They too had very slow fishing. He said reports from everywhere were bad...

Go home day... I wanted no more to do with the dead edge and pointed us to the deep on a determined mixed spread troll toward home... Usually I can pick something but it wasn't looking that way for about twenty miles. I was 15 minutes away from calling it done when we doubled up on dolphin. One hit the deck and the other pulled off at the transom. Well I figured I'd turn back and take another pass. I was up wind and pointed back at the spot when I see lit up pecs and tail..... Small blue marlin racing in for the left flat!!! Then I see another already bowed up on the right flat heading for the horizon!!! Both pulled off! GRRRR! Still cool to watch. I turn to make another pass. The riggers that had been reloaded both go down. Fifty wides start buzzin but good? I'm hoping to see a billfish blow up. Nope... I see stripes... Wahoo! Decked em and time to head home... Wallowed a bit in the 2-4 on our stern but good ride in... So boss man was tickled and I guess thats what counts...
