Organic Foods

Mango ManMango Man Posts: 13,570 AG
I find myself using more and more as time goes on. I've also have changed my eating habits regarding processed foods.

Anyone else "eating healthy"?

Deer I've shot and fish I've caught are the only things in my fridge that I know are truly organic.

I have found or it may just be me, that Publix Greenwise steaks are much higher quality than their regular steaks. Really, no gristle at all and a better taste.

You can still make a healthy one.

I'm not eating more organic foods but my daily diet and eating habits have definitely changed, drastically, since 8/10.

If it makes you feel good, that's awesome. But there's no evidence that eating "organic" does you any good and ample evidence that much of the food sold as organic doesn't even meet the loose definition established by the USDA. On the other hand, much like those that do cross-fit and own Yeti coolers, talking about it gives off an air of superiority that may bolster low self esteem.....so that's a positive result.

It is now known that processed meat and certain kinds of meat will better your chance of getting cancer.

Finding out your Diabetic makes you change your eating habits especially if you don't want to take meds or shots. Healthier eating habits were surprisingly easy, I never have cravings for anything which really surprise me and everyone around me. One of the hardest things I confront is how guilty everyone feels when I'm out to eat and dessert time arrives at the end of the meal. It's funny everyone feels so bad for ordering anything and I really don't desire dessert.

Thats happened a few times recently at family celebrations. Cake time comes around and everyone is looking down, trying not to make eye contact with me, feeling guilty. Then I hear the, "did you see Rich, he didn't even eat a piece of cake, I feel soo bad" whispers

Well, I don't own a Yeti nor do I have a low self esteem or do cross-fit. However, your body is no different than a engine. You take care of it and feed it good "fuel" and you have less problems.

I can feel how my body reacts when I eat processed foods....I feel like crap.

Not organic necessarily, but I have tried to cut way down on processed foods and stick with the simple "If I can grow it or kill it, I can eat it philosophy." I have noticed that by combining that diet with some fairly regularly exercise and a good 8 to 9 hours of sleep each evening that I feel much better, have more energy, etc. It did take a few weeks to start noticing a difference.

Stress related high blood pressure(135/84) readings at cardiologists visit, prompted me to really look at sodium content in canned soups, beans, breads, bagels, salad dressings,etc.etc. As such, ive really cut back on a lot of those everyday items. we eat a ton of fresh vegs, legumes, fruits a fair amount of which is organic. I feel the flavor difference is worth the surcharge alone. Compare a roasted organic sweet potato with a regular one, no comparasion!

There is definitely some truth to that. I noticed that the first time I ate some vegetables I grew myself. I know recently I picked up a whole, locally-sourced, free range chicken and while the chicken was certainly quite a bit smaller than the typical ones in the store, it was delicious! The same has held true for fruits, chicken, eggs, vegetables, etc. that I've eaten while traveling down in Central America. They were always something I would probably pass up in the grocery aisle just based on looks, but tasted much better and were probably much healther!

This is a telling list. You seem concerned with sodium content and list some items with high sodium, which also happen to be a carb heavy list. Want your BP to go down? lower your carb intake. If you eat a low carb diet, you actually have to take in MORE sodium to compensate because you body doesn't store it.

    Carb-Free Gin & Tonic

Gin and tonics are great summertime drinks. They’re crisp and cool, but tonic water is loaded with carbs, with 32 grams per can! Swap out soda water for your tonic, and you’ll get the flavor without hurting your diet efforts.

Make! Mix one jigger of gin with soda water, a squeeze of lemon or lime, and serve over ice.

    estimated calories: 150
    estimated carbohydrates: <1 gram

About 25 years ago I had a conversation with a chemist from a chemical company (Rohm & Hass) about chemical fertilizers and pesticides that his company produced many of.

I asked if they were really detrimental to humans....and his reply was ...Of course they are....they are inside what you eat and there is no getting them out!

I was rather shocked at his extremely candid reply.....after all...he just got done telling me that the stuff he makes either kills or shortens peoples lives.

He then went on to tell me that WITHOUT these chemicals...it would be impossible to feed the population of the world as soils would get depleted of nutrients and insects would decimate the majority of the crops.

You can feed the world without the use of pesticides and herbicides.

the best way to eat healthier is to cook your own food from fresh ingredients and make your own sauces, dressings and rubs with little to no sugar

    sugar is the debil

    yep, just read that recently

With that all said.......wth is it with so many kids these days having nut allergies? I mean tons. Used to be one kid the whole school was allergic to pnuts. Now, every kid is either tree nuts, pnuts, both. And lactose "intolerant"
    Very bizarre.
