Looking to repower a 1996 action craft 2020 with a Yamaha vmax 250 will also have a jack plate. Any ideas as to what top end speed would be with this setup

Can't imagine it would be anything but FAST! I have an 1820 with a Mercury 150 and its has plenty of power for me. So add 2' of boat length, about 350 lbs of boat weight + 100HP...FAST!

60-65, i believe that is overpowered as well

Well the boat is getting repowered as I text. Hopefully sometime next week will be able to take her out.surprisingly the boat is actually rated up to a 250 so pretty excited about it.

I had a 2020 with a tired 225 VMax, it ran mid 50's. You may hit 60. Let us know how it goes.

The older 2020's are a little heavier than the new 2020's but the top speed should be around 62-64mph.

Hit 61mph at 5000rpm over the weekend so still have about 500rpm more to open up on. That's also with a 25pitch prop

If its a 250 Sho you need to be spinning 6k rpm with a medium-light load.

I ran my boat with 2 people and loaded last week to 69 mph with a yamaha 25 pitch prop, about 5700-5800 rpm. It was colder with a decent tailwind though. Only got 63-64 into the wind

I would expect it to have been faster than that. I've hit 53 once but more typically 51 in my 1720 with a 135 opti.

It's an 06 vmax Hdpi motor not sure if it's an sho you speak of. I still have more playing around with it. I realized I didn't have the motor trimmed up and need to play a little more with trim tabs and jack plate First big motor boat so trying to figure it out

Going into that wind at 64 with the trolling motor on the back deck is scary. I had the 20-25mph wind grab the bow and pull it up, the front anchor locker actually popped open from the negative pressure. Lets just say when we hit the idle zone i had to run to the backroom for a quick check.

The prop had too much lift. Ran 65 into that wind with another prop and 67.6 with the wind.

Try a 24 fury, jack plate all the way down, and lots of trim. I can tell you it will get it with that prop if it can spin it. I have one you can try if you pass by clearwater or gainesville
