Windy Weekend in CK

Went out saturday and sunday this past weekend. Saturday we took some family friends that usually fish #4 but we had to show them some shell mound fatties, we were in the aluminum skiff they were in kayaks. We explored up into dennis creek and ended up with one keeper red at 22 on topwater, fish were finecky and missed my plug at least 10 times... Lots of strikes. Two of the four friends got their limit plus an over slot. Very windy and some tough fishing. Sunday was a different story... Fish left and right trolled around casting plugs and bam 22 inch fish on topwater with some missed strikes, caught some mullet and fished some outside bars which paid off... Started off two keeper reds back to back. Little brother hooked into a "redfish" which was screaming drag, pulled up to boat and it was a giant trout probably 25-27 inches... Pulled the hook right there and watched him swim away.... Heart breaker but caught 15+ reds 3 keepers and a Nice 20 inch trout. Fun day with great people. Most fish caught on chart. Skitterwalk and cut mullet/shrimp.

Enjoyed your report. Good fish! Love Shell Mound. Have you run that skiff north from Shell Mound up to Preacher's Hole?

I'm gonna guess the fish aren't "missing" your plug rather you're anxious and trying to get a hook set when the fish first tries it. Try to be more patient and continue to play the lure at the same pace. The fish may bump it several times before it truly attacks it.

P.S. In a kayak Shell Mound can be great. In a kayak with much more than a good breeze (depending on direction and falling or rising tide) Shell Mound can be a beast.

It's doesn't seem like the wind bothered that fishing trip. That paragraph is loaded with fish catching!! Nice.

Looks like you were pretty well protected in your fishing areas and caught some very nice fish!
