Steinhatchee Reds

Came over to Hatchee hoping to find some redfish. We left the boat launch at 10:30 and turned south at channel marker 2. High tide was at 12:05 so we wanted to be fishing at the top and outgoing. Set up shop in a promising creek mouth. We were fishing gulps under popping corks or gulps rigged with a jig head for casting. Colors were white or mottled grey. For the next 3 hours we put everything in the boat imaginable. Redfish, trout, flounder, jacks, lady fish, needlefish, pin fish and Spanish mackerel! The sheer numbers being caught was impressive but most fish were small. But the "catching" was non stop and we had a blast. Final cooler count was 6 redfish 19 - 22 inches, and three sea trout 17 - 19 inches. Later in the evening we took some of the fillets over to the Who Dat Grill and they cooked us a blackened fish dinner that was delicious. Great weekend trip to our fish camp...hope to be back soon!
