Mayan Cichlid - does anybody eat these?

I live in South Florida where these cichlids are an invasive species and recently I've been working with FWC on catching them and logging the locations so they can collect and analyze the data. They recommend killing the fish which I don't particularly agree with since I only kill what I plan on eating. With that being said, I've fileted a few of them and tried cooking them in butter and while it wasn't the best fish I've ever tasted it also wasn't the worst. I'm thinking it might be better smoking the filets then making it into fish dip. Or maybe chopping it up and making fish tacos.

Has anyone else tried eating these fish and if so can you recommend any recipes or share any ideas you have?

And if anyone else is interested on working with the FWC on this project I can give you the contact info for them. It's basically volunteer work where they are asking people to report back to them with a location whenever they catch an invasive species and in return for your efforts they will give you a t-shirt.
