Trading In A Gun For New Fire Arm At Gander Muntain.

Probably wouldn't trade in a high demand gun but they seem fair on most guns. Any thoughts?

I am guessing you would make more money putting the gun in the classifieds In the forum then selling at gander. Probably easier to go to gander and not have to deal with tire kickers

Didn't know Gander did trade in's. Personally I would just sell the old weapon, but there may be liability issues now days, unlike before. So if Gander does this go for it, older weapons are not worth crap anyway.

Plus if you trade in there is no waiting period.

That is the stupidest statement I've heard in a while. You've got it backwards..

Why, my stainless mini 14s are not worth selling, just keep. Handguns same, just keep. Newer weapons are much more pricey. Nothing wrong with trading old crap you will never use again. Like my S&W 40

I have sold several guns here to other members. The transactions were quick and the gun(s) weren't in the classifieds too long. It was great meeting other members. Very easy transactions with few "tirekickers." Besides you will make more than G.M. will give you.

The older guns were built better, shoot straighter and are safer. Some of the older weapons I have are worth 3 to 5 times what I paid for them.

There are no liability issues with selling firearms via private sale as long as you do not know the person is under disability from owning or possessing a firearm - convicted felon for example.

    No bill of sale required.

    No questions required.

    No waiting period required.

    No concealed weapons permit required.

I think he was referring to the new thing where guns go out on the street by themselves

how in the hell would I know a supposed buyer, say off craigslist, was not a convicted felon, its not like he would just tell me.

If you are scared a bill of sale and a copy if ID will cover your butt.

If a really nice weapon that has not been shot a lot, but typically inflation adjusted they are depreciating assets just like cars.

Didn't think CraigsList posted gun ads.

Greatly prefer shopping at Gun Shows over going to "At Gander Muntain". Most Gun Shows invite you to bring gun you want to sell or trade & allow you to walk around with For Sale sign. Of course I'm mostly interested in classic guns made of blued steel & walnut, what many consider "old crap".

I would have to question my attorney on that. But for a silly small dollar amount sale, why risk it?
  • BuckeyeBuckeye Posts: 4,984 Captain
It is not your legal responsibility to run a back ground check on anyone for a private sale - simply put you cannot knowingly sell to a person under disability. That's it. You don't have to ask. You don't need a bill of sale. Personally I would never provide a bill of sale purchasing from a private individual for privacy sake - why would I want someone I don't know having personal private information on me?

If you put it on a FB gun page you are allowed to ask full retail for a gun with less than 8,000rounds and only minor wear. If you have ammo and a holster for it then the sky is the limit.

Gander's prices are so high any trade-in isn't worth it.
