Heck ya' : that's some nice river shrimp...! location , location, location....???
Nada here in Fruit Cove area...
Drove over Shands Bridge last Friday ( 9/25). Zero boats out shrimping around 10:30 am.
High tides + rain are making things hard to predict.
Big shrimp in Welaka...but very scattered ...as of last Friday.....zip to 8 or so per throw.
Weird also...as they were in 10 to 16 ft depth.....not the usual 20+ depth.
The shands bridge just haven't produced muçh lately. Earlier in the season we were getting some mostly small and medium but lately I haven't even got enough for bait.
Went last night for a couple hours. Granted the tide was not perfect things were very slow. After all this rain do I need to give it another couple of days?
The nice ones we did get were huge, some of the biggest shrimp I've seen but they were far and few between.

high outgoing tide is what you want now. You will also want to try the stronger tides to because this will get the masses moving towards the ocean. If we have a aproaching cold front and strong high moving water will get them on the move to.
I'm considering going tomorrow or maybe Saturday. Can't decide where I might have better chances, north (Shands bridge/Green Cove/Palatka) or south (Welaka). Any suggestions???????

This is worth remembering. Most folks don't realized what the shrimp are actually doing ( J does! ) so they don't shift tactics as the season progresses but his advice here is perfect.
The white shrimp ( what is in the river ) have over the last 3-4 week completely replaced the browns on the beaches in the commercial catch. And in the last 10 days the overall size has improved to where some of the TAILS being broken from them are counting 21-25, which correlates to a 13-15ct with the head.

So basically, closer to the ocean, Mon,Tue,wed night looks like good tides for night shrimping. How about daytime in Arlington high tides this weekend early afternoon. I've never tried deep hole shrimping up that way. I did see a boat pulling his net out there last Sun. I guess that should answer my question.

brian you can shrimp that part of the river just like being in the shands area or anywhere else. I would use an old net until learn that area. If I remember right someone posted some good reports of daytime shrimping in that area last year
The concept jimmy06 and bswiv are referring to is called Selective Tidal Stream Transport and is explained in this one paragraph section titled: The Essential Features:
A few mediums showed up last night near mouth of ulington Creek....a buddy sent me pic's.
Not great.....but a heck of alot better than none
hmm....w/ G. Cove report ..maybe they are on the move.
I'm told, zippo in Ortega ...around bridge...during the day. If in Riverside along bulkhead at night...where are they hanging out during the day ?
