Yes, there are scallops, but it's not a great year for them. Population is down. Every year the Conservation Department studies the bay and publishes their results before the season opens. September is the best time to hunt them. They have short lives and grow fast, so the biggest ones are to be found at the end of the season. I like to use a hit and run approach, where I snorkel an area for about ten or fifteen minutes, and move if I don't find any scallops in that time.
