Are there any Scallops in ST.Joe Bay This year?

There are very few Scallops in St.Joe Bay.

Yes, there are scallops, but it's not a great year for them. Population is down. Every year the Conservation Department studies the bay and publishes their results before the season opens. September is the best time to hunt them. They have short lives and grow fast, so the biggest ones are to be found at the end of the season. I like to use a hit and run approach, where I snorkel an area for about ten or fifteen minutes, and move if I don't find any scallops in that time.

The ones we got at Crystal River were big too.

A buddy was at St. Joe a couple weeks ago and did pretty well.
