Been a long time since I posted a report...
Saturday morning we left the dock at 7AM. Rained like hell. Way to dangerous to get to the skyway for bait.
Got some Pinfish on the flats and went to a few spots. Tried live and cut Pins as the morning tide turned. Caught a few snook, nothing special.
Normally, these spots produced tons of redfish. But this season has been off for me. Only a few Reds, though they are nice and over slot or close.
Mostly Snook at these spots lately.
As the weather deteriorated, and the 3 foot waves near the skyway looked frightening in my 16 foot scout we called it. Just before my buddy lost the only redfish of the day on a live pinfish.
Sunday, we got out later unfortuneately, and the skyway was more gentle. I could not chum any bait up as the tide was just ripping. So we had to spend an hour sabikiing 4 dozen huge whitebaits... A little too big unfortunately.
Ran to Bishops, which I only know a little and caught a few snook. Then since the tide was just dead low went to terra ceia. Saw some tailing reds but couldnt pole to them as my draft was too shallow, and our baits just seemed to big anyway. So we started to chunk them up and wade. Caught nothing.
Now as the day ended I found a live pinfish in the well and tossed it out. them No-see-ums were getting fierce so I started zipping my pant legs on and set the rod down. As I was messing with the zipper my rod just started to FLY to the water!!
I grabbed it with no time to spare and got this nice 29-30 inch snook!! Kinda saved the day!
Still, I am baffled that the Reds have been so far and few between this season. when I hear good reports elsewere. I also apparently suck at fishing low tide... Any advice on that front>
Thanks guys!! Have a good week!
