Well being an Engineer I would consider such, but not in Florida, no evaporation equals no cooling, perhaps out west, it may be a godsend.

People were doing this in the early 70's. No go for the reasons Polar mentioned.

Today's residential units have plenty of condenser coil and run low head pressures. That's all spraying water on the coil does is lower the head pressures which lowers the amps on the compressor. Lowering it more on most equipment is a bad thing.

When I worked in the field I carried a piece of PVC with holes in it and a water hose connector for emergencies on walk in coolers and freezers. I would wire tie it to the machine when we found a bad fan motor. Spray it with water and return with motor. Can't walk away with 12K worth of food and say I'll order you a motor.

Everything you for an emergency I totally agree. Aim the sprinkler at the condenser coil for the evening...
Today's systems aren't engineered for the added drop in subcooling, hence the reason hot water heat recovery aren't used anymore. Butt somebody will buy it, he'll put the cash in his pocket and close up shop in a year. GENIUS!!!!
