A man who formerly portrayed Florida State mascot Chief Osceola was stabbed and killed last week in Panama City Beach, Fla., after an argument over a gumbo recipe, WTLX-TV in Tallahassee reported.

Caleb Joshua Halley, who served as Chief Osceola from 2004-07 and graduated from the university in 2009, was allegedly stabbed last Tuesday by coworker Orlando Thompson at a restaurant where the two worked. The incident occurred after an apparent altercation over the amount of spice to put into some gumbo at Buddy's Seafood Market.

According to police, Thompson pulled out a wooden board while Halley grabbed a small pocket knife. Thompson then walked away and brought back a 15-inch knife. He allegedly swung the knife at Halley, causing three lacerations across his torso.

Halley, 34, died two days later, on Thursday, from the injuries. Thompson, 26, was arrested by Panama City Beach Police and charged with manslaughter.

I do love me some Gumbo, but **** is wrong with people?

I actually met him a few times, he was chief during my Freshman & Sophmore football seasons. A friend of mine was dating a cheerleader, and Caleb would come hang out/pregame/party at their house. For what it's worth, he was a hell'uva beer pong player.

When I was at FSU, it was Allen Durham. He was in my insurance classes. His family started the tradition.

How is it that you leave a situation to get a different weapon and are only charged with manslaughter?

Kind of sounds like self defense to me.

    Guy pulls a knife.

    Guy pulls a bigger knife.

Small knife guy gets cut up by big knife guy.

Replace big knife guy with big gun guy and it's a classic self defense case.

"Innocent until proven guilty" I say. "The truth will come out". "Lets wait for the investigation". "IF".

From what I read, the guy left the area, and then returned with a bigger knife.

it ain't self defense if he left, removing all danger, and RETURNED with a bigger knife.

They were arguing over spices for gumbo, meaning it is likely they were in a kitchen.

You are acting like big knife guy went to Walmart and bought a big knife and came back. More likely, small knife guy pulls out small knife, big knife guy walks to other side of the kitchen counter and grabs a big knife.

    Where did he leave to?

"Left the area". What the hell does that mean?

If they were in the kitchen, where did big knife guy get his piece? The dining area? So small knife guy pulls a knife smaller than what is in the dining area?

Where I come from we'd call what small knife guy done felonious assault.

I thought Noles had more compassion and would have patience to wait for the investigation to finish, not immediately condemn a man who may have been justly defending himself by calling for tougher charges.

We can argue about this all we want, either way a man is dead.

Remove the fact that he went to FSU and was the mascot, we're not even dicussing it on this forum.

Oh, and for the guy taking a jab at the "FSU degree" do you have any idea what it's like trying to get a job these days with just a bachelors? Granted, if you have a foot in the door, you're okay. If you're good at sales, and want to go into sales you can always find a job. However, these days a basic bachelors degree isn't worth diddley squat in the job market. More 22-28 year olds are in post secondary/graduate programs than in US history....why?

    Don't be such a baffoon.

actually, your generalization is buffoonish. you can do a tremendous amount with a bachelors. You can also get bachelors that are worthless which is one reason I'm against the "free college tuition" push, but that's another discussion.

It's a Ba or BS degree from FLOWDUH state....yes it's hard to get a job with that toilet paper printed clown degree...would you expect it any different....he went to clown school for a few years to party and play token Indian to find himself...ok I get it, lowered intellect, lowered expections....so he takes his toilet paper degree and gets a job at a restraunt....probley started off by washing dishes next to a non degreed person who doesn't have a massive student loan...worked his way up to lemon wedge person, heck maybe even ice cube person...soon after that he was doing trash and busing tables, he just worked his way up the ladder.....and finally made it to kitchen help....his years at FLOWDUH state paid off....and he of course gets into a knife fight and dies.....sucks, but at least he doesn't have to pay back his student loan....
For the love of all outdoors recreational activities....what my spelling is off, that will learn ya. Pimping ain't easy unless u went to FSU, its a BS course.
What do u get when you can connect the dots, color inside the lines, and get your release papers.....sentence served, times up at Felon sentenced university.
    Floridas first woman's college.
The only difference between FSU and all the other colleges are other colleges accept you into the university's. At FSU you are taken into custody.

    1. Her story changed 3 times the night of the incident alone. The entire thing was so SNAFU'd from the get-go, it ALSO came out and came to light WAAAAAAY after the indicent occured. Allowed for extra speculation and questions. Also, was proven innocent.

    2. What happened with the Karlos Williams case? Last I saw he is on the bills in an NFL league that takes DV VERY VERY SERIOUSLY these days. Look at how many kids didn't get drafted or dropped 4-5 rounds just because of a mere fear/thought that they have DV issues. Innocent.

    3. Instant story, instant police report. When i read the police report I said get rid of him. When i saw the video, it was GOODBYE! I said, if true the guy has to go. I said the same thing about Jameis, go back to the threads. If it was proven to be true, his nuts deserve to be cut off.

    4. Please, show me where I said anything about 1st degree murder.

But go ahead, this is the easy narrative to run with in FS sports.

Look up 95% of his posts not in sports. Informative, well written and generally a very positive addition to the forum at large. When he posts in sports he plays a part, it's all a facade. I wish he would have the same attitude here, as he is actually an incredibly intelligent and helpful individual.
