Red Snapper 6/4/15

Went west 70+ miles. Played around with the Mahi and pulled in 35 before we got to business on the ARS. They ate anything jig related.

tg, I've never caught red snapper in Naples. Any advice? The California is 70 miles out but that is yellow tails.

I haven't done it very often. Hard/live bottom in at least 130' of water has produced. The hard part, at least for me, is spending the money on fuel to go bottom hunting that far. It really helps to have some "numbers" at least to start with. Believe it or not, but some "known" areas have been fished out in the last few days. I tried the same place yesterday where those fish in the picture were caught. Only managed one and saw some of the same boats there. I think people see the short season and feel they have to pack a whole year into one week. Unintended consequences of our fish management troops.

edit....I plan on doing some hunting more often this summer. I think it gets deeper faster in some spots closer to Marco. The spot above was west of Naples. It was frustrating yesterday in that the water was too rough for me to see the bottom at any sort of speed.

Thanks. I have certainly noticed that with grouper fishing the last year... more pressure, less fish and smaller fish.
