Boca 5/29/15 Afternoon Bite

Was able to get out around 4pm to a suprisingly not to bad ocean. Set up out front of of boca inlet in 300 did 3 drifts with livies and had steady action every drift. Ended up with 5 Blackfin and a sail. Not bad for a couple hours just would like to find some bigger baits. Everything in the inlet or around the beach were small 3-4" sardines and Pilchards. Has anyone found any bigger baits around boca or are they all small?

Everything in the inlet in Boca has seemed to be fairly small. Where you straight off of Boca or North or South a bit?

Can you please describe the set up you have for hooking live baits? Size/type of hook and leader and where you hook the bait? I've jumped way too many dolphin the last few trips drifting and am rethinking my live bait set up. Thanks and nice report.

I am no pro at live baiting but when I do fish live bait I use 3/0-5/0 circle hooks depending on the size of the bait with 60lb flurocarbon . If I start getting cutoffs ill use the same size hooks on wire with a stinger. I usually hook the baits through the nose or chin unless there on the kite then ill hook them right below the dorsal fin. I hope this helps like i said im no pro at live baiting but this has always worked for me.

That is a great afternoon....yeah we haven't had good bait in Boca for several years now, since they did a lot of dredging...
