SLI Jupiter PBI Downtown ShowDown KDW 5/23

Sorry for the late post. We pre fished the tournament on 5/22 mostly checking bait spots we had goggs pre orded and ribbons but picked up some runners and threads at blue roof, pecks lake and near by bull shark.

5/23 checked out of Pbi juno ledge was crowded so we stayed shallow and slow trolled with two out riggers coming back naked not even our wire on the line must have been a pack of kings fighting over same bait slayed us.
moved to deeper water started marking fish knock downs from sails and small phins. Not our targeted species and sails were wasting our time. Reports came in kings in 120-220 ft. We ran all over the place but the 2 o clocl king bite started but too far from weigh in time. Fun tournament day but the seas were too calm, scattered weeds, no wind and the bite was late. Had a great time it was better then a sharp stick in the eye

Yeah same thing happend to a lot of boats, the prior winds before scattered the weeds, it has been so calm and hot out i believe the mojority of the bigger fish were deeper in 120-220 off juno ledge. Once the winds picked up and couple storm clouds came from the south in stuart we saw surface bait getting crashed all over north of bull shark. Commercial boat reports came in push button hill no king bite except small phins, reports came in prior to tournament boyton beach had no king fish bite but a non tourney friend slammed a 46lb king the day of tourney. A 39lb king won the whole tourney.

I agree with the seas which are "too calm." I love a nice swell, some wind chop on top and some white caps here or there.

Anyhow, you had fun and that's all that matters.

    Cheers

How did you guys like the tournament? I'm one of the organizers and would love to hear some feedback either way. We always like to take feedback so we can add it to the planning meeting for next years tournament.

Great tournament and weather....but fishing was not what we expected. I came over from left coast and the generosity of the John & Grant in pulling out a great spread of food, free drinks and four tournament long sleeve tee shirts is out of vogue with most events these days sadly. Taylor Dog was with me and his friend bested a nice sail around 60 lbs and we managed a 1 phin about 7-8 lbs.

Everyone should mark their calenders for next year and enter the KDW Downtown.
