And if they don't they wont starve , It amazes me how people just cant deal with change . no saying you but just in general .
It amazes me how you people think you're so ****ing smart.
I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

Not necessarily. Loose lips will sink ships. If a poacher brags about it enough...his time will come. I know for a fact of at least one that bragged a little bit to much. One phone call from an anonymous source and he lost his hunting privileges for 5 years........:wink

Hmmmm, I just hear a lot of chatter about does getting slipped out of Richloam all the time. Then I hear more crap about a guy I know but not really a friend who fire hunts around here and does pretty good for himself. It's really out of control. I know the one guy has been reported before.

I know of way more deer getting poached than I care too. It's sickening, and it never ends.
Truth. I know of at least 15-20 that were taken last year out of dupuis, allapattah, corbett, and hungryland and they caught those kids. How long were they doing it etc. who knows. I know of at least 3 taken this year in the last few months.

IF SOMEONE IS THAT WORRIED ABOUT PEOPLE POACHING and bothers them that much all they have to do is make a few phone calls to make a difference . Don't complain about it if your not willing to do something about it .

Is it really that easy? Geezus all this time and who knew it would just take a couple phone calls to make a difference.....glad somebody figured it out.

Slipped out?? No they just drive out and leave. To many roads to cover and watch and not enough LEO presence to do any major deterrence. I was hearing talk of increased presence in the future during turkey season. Heck even places with a gate and check station no one even glances in the back of a pickup truck. Many of the woods savvy LEO have retired.

Back in the day I can remember that there would be LEO with a dog checking cars and trucks for stashed game. The tide seemed to shift to the water for many years. I have hope that with recent changes more resources will be dedicated to our WMA's.

    This^^.
I remember road blocks coming out of the woods after dark. I have not seen a GW in 3 seasons in the area I hunt. I even called about some illegal duck activity that was going on this past winter, and still never saw one

Yea but even the poacher likes to think that they beat the system.

That wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit. At least the jeeps would be locked out.

It's not another lock. You keep looking at APRs as if they are some penalty or punitive regulation forced upon the hunters to keep them from shooting deer. That's not what APRs do and it's been explained over and over again. You just refuse to listen and/or understand the purpose.

Yes I do. Here are a sampling from all over the state. Pay particular attention to the last one, Richloam. Originally the APR there went from the 5" rule to a forked horn. You'll notice that after the initial drop in the first year, the harvest rebounded to almost identical numbers as pre-APR. What's interesting though is that the percentage of 1.5 year old bucks being harvested was not significantly impacted. After further study, herd characteristics show that in order to protect that 1.5 year old age class, a 3-point on a side or 10" main beam APR is needed. All that the forked horn APR did was to high grade the 1.5 year old age class of bucks.

Chuck, I assume you mean Richloam Baird unit, instead of Richloam. Richloam, until these changes, has been A 5" rule since it was a 1" rule. Baird unit went from a 5" rule to a 3-on-on-one-side rule. Neither has ever been under a forked horn rule.

Also, back before these changes were made, when we were all giving our opinion on the proposals, I expressed concerns about high grading. You told me that high grading was "just not possible". Now you're using bad info to show how it has happened? So what gives?

It's not bad info. This data is for Baird Unit. FWC has it labled as Richloam but it is Richloam Baird Unit.

When we discussed APRs for Richloam WMA, I told you high grading was not possible using the 3 pt on one side or 10" main beam. Data collected from the check station and from surrounding areas over the last 25 years shows that at least 71% of the 1.5 year old class of bucks in the area are protected by a 3 pt on one side or 10" main beam APR. Only about 66% of 1.5 year olds are protected by a forked horn rule APR. The data FWC collected from Baird APRs is on the 3-pt APRs. I misread the information the other night when typing that up. My mistake. There is no high grading that took place at Baird Unit.

Not really. Some just think that a lock was added when in reality what happened is a link was added to the chain.
