That's what was stated in the article but I believe they intended it to mean all animals not just deer. Either way thats a big number to estimate. I wonder what their previeved margin of error was?

I read a report published by State Farm Insurance recently. Florida is ranked 46th for deer vs. vehicle occurrences. The numbers were 1 in 971 for this occurrence. That should put the deer death rate at 14,312 with over 13 million licensed drivers within the state.

It said 1.5 million a year in collisions with auto's. Figure maybe 40 states have whitetails, that about 37,500 per state.
