FMT Chip Update is Now Available
1 .Hi Res Imagery has been added north of Miami to approximately Merritt Island on the East coast and to Sarasota Bay on the West Coast and it includes the inland areas including Lake Okeechobee. The added imagery (some sample shots with an Iphone of an HDS below running it) is not yet adjusted but on the next release it will be so these images should be improved for brightness, color and contrast and clarity. However, they are pretty decent as is and much superior to any other alternative. The resolution of all of these photos (some are 6 inches") is higher than a current HDS can read so as the units get better the pictures will get better. The adjustments to the added imagery for all of Florida is expected to be complete by this Fall.
2. The NOAA Tide data has been added so it is right on the map and can be accessed there or turned off.
3. The base map has lots off added features/layers. With an HDS they can be turned off/on. Elite units don’t yet have this functionality built into their software. Added features include: some additional tracks, the boundaries and IDs for State Parks and other managed areas, manatee zones, oyster and clam beds, The intra coastal Waterways, military bases, restricted areas, 10-20-200 NM boundary, Oil Lease Blocks often used for navigation reference, Oil platforms, Artificial reefs with ID of what is actually supposed to be down there, Flats and Banks highlights, and a few others.
If you have purchased one already this update is available if you switch out your current chip. When N. Florida is available we will provide that as well. FMT will now offer N. Florida and S. Florida separately or as a package. If you plan to be in the Keys in June you can pick up your update in person if you like. These quick example photos are not the greatest focus or clarity. Taking a photo of the screen with a phone is not the best result. They look totally clean on the unit and much better than this but it gives you a decent idea of what to expect.
