Vaping?

BuckeyeBuckeye Posts: 4,984 Captain
Seems as if there was a thread a few months back about giving up smoking - have any of you guys explored the world of vaping or e-cigs as it is commonly called? You can get pretty fancy with your "mod" and even make your own "juice" with or with out nicotine.

I started a couple weeks ago and I am now down to about 2-3 little cigars a day (usually first thing in the morning) and 0 nicotine during the day in the juice. Very relaxing, similar to smoking, and I can already feel a change in my breathing.

I purchaced the vapor cig the week before Thanksgiving 2013 and smoked my last cigarette Thanksgiving day. That evening I left to go hunting in GA for four days with three other non-smokers. It was the perfect time to totally quit. I carried the e cig till January 2014, dropped the nicotine down to zero and one morning I told myself thats it I'm done. I only put on 20 pounds but who's counting. I feel 100 percent better and the hacking is gone. I don't even cough up the big brown chunks when I brush my teeth in the AM. If you are a heavy smoker like I was you know what I'm talking about. Smoked for nearly 30 years and I was smoking 2 packs a day or more when I quit. Bottom line is you have to want to quit.

Always wonder what somebody with the "devilsh habit smoking" thinks when they see the graphic anti-smoking ads featuring withering people dying from cigarettes?

Never in imagine "Vaping" is a good idea.

Had a friend who got addicted to Nicotine gum & patches.

For the most part "a hard core drinker" who has been an alcoholic for many years has pickled so many brain cells they're essentially no longer able to think.

Nicotine addicts apparently are able to pass sobriety tests. There are no Driving While Smoking statutes.

But I went from a pack and a half to 10 with vaping. Top that off with a couple hits of Medical on the weekend and I'm good.

A fellow Gator friend who is an occupational therapist and under a lot of personal and job stress switched from the stink sticks a year or so ago and is now slowly reducing the amount of nicotine she is addicted to.

Has been very good for her.

Plus, my Gator sister-in-law and a long time smoker is now being treated at Moffitt for throat cancer.

Should scare the chit of any dumb bastid who still wants to continue smoking . . . especially with those TV ads of those bald people who have indeed been to hell, and now speaking with a mechanical voice box for the short time they have left.

This is nothing to be taken lightly.

Nicotine is the most addictive drug from which to escape. After quitting, the residual need can last for a decade or more.

    Man up, or give up!

So explain genius. HTF does one become hooked on a "cure" for an addiction BEFORE they have an addiction? You have some deep seated issues. Now go count some powerline splices. It might be comforting.:rotflmao

Are you using a regular e-cig or some type of mod? Are you 0 nicotine? Do you mix your own "juice"?

I suppose one of my biggest issues with vaping is the cost. Local e-cig store sells their "juice" at $22 for 30 ML. 30ML is lasting me about 4 days. The cigarette (swisher sweet little cigars) I was/am smoking run about $2.50 a pack and I was a half a pack a day smoker (used to be much heavier), so my cost going to vape has actually increased a great deal from about $10 per week to nearly $50. The financial side of it isn't a huge deal, but I have looked at the ingredients in e-cig juice and have watched a few youtube videos on do it yourself. Basically you can buy a gallon of the vegetable glycerin on amazon for less than $40 and various flavors for a few bucks each. At the rate I'm vaping a gallon (3,785 ML) of VG would last 63 weeks - seems like a no brainer.

I have quit cold turkey before for extended periods of time, like a year or two. The problem is at some point I run in to a long lost friend I haven't seen in a few years, a bottle gets pulled out passed around and next thing you know I'm at a gas station picking a pack of smokes up. That in and of itself isn't the problem, the problem begins the next day - I have a hard time throwing away a any "left over" smokes from the night before and so the cycle begins, again.

I honestly don't believe I am addicted to the nicotine or anything else. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around addictions in general I suppose. I mean if you can go 1/3 of your life (while you are sleeping) with out something, you don't really need it. To me it is habit forming. I used to travel around 50,000 miles a year for work and one habit I still have is upon starting a vehicle I reach for a cig. First thing in the morning and last thing at night, I'm looking for a cig. Seems to be more of a habit issue than an addiction issue, at least for me.

Yes, you are right. I sat and watched as my grandfather (2 pack a day Winston's) slowly died from smoking.

My grandmother (non smoker) had heart issues my entire life - just genes I think, but I have her genes no doubt and smoking will certainly shorten my life.

My father (2+ pack a day smoker) had quad by pass surgery in his mid 40's and other (stints etc) ever since.

I'm in my mid 30's and it is only a matter of time before my genes catch up to me as well.

It's got'n cheaper, I'm about 10 or 15 bucks a week now for coils and juice.
  • BuckeyeBuckeye Posts: 4,984 Captain
How often are you replacing your coils and how do you know it's time? The guy where I've been going says "You will just know" and a coil should last 2-3 weeks. I'm going on week 4 and haven't noticed a difference.

Are you simply not using as much juice as when you started or are you making it yourself?
