Had some fun over the last few days with a group that fished a few days with us. Here is the recap: dolphin bite is non existent off PBI right now. We dragged the dredges and were able to tease up 4 sails and hooked and caught 3 of them. The insane amount of scattered weed everywhere inside of 500 feet made it really tough so we switched up to some kite fishing off lost tree where we found a strip of clean water with a temp break in 80-130 feet. The Kings were here in full force and we boated several keeping three (aggregate allowance) from 30-53 pounds all in 130 or less feet. The kite bite was crazy as they were skying at the kite baits- always fun to see. In 130 a yellowfin blasted the short but the angler slammed the drag to sunset and the 20 pound mono snapped. Oh well! The last picture was snapped at exactly the right time when Logan realized he had the biggest king of the day and won! Priceless moment. Get out and fish!

20 pound makes it fun, and we specialize in light tackle fishing. 20 pound on conventional and 12, 15 and 17 on spinning reels. Nabbing a huge sail on 12 pound or a 40 pound king on 15 pound is a really cool feat. Plus, we put fresh topshots on every month or so which are about 250 yards so its always fresh... Its really, I mean REALLY hard to break 15 pound sufix, especially with a good bimini. You'd be very surprised how much prerssure it takes to snap it, really the only way it does is if the fish runs under the boat and cataches it or the client plays a "game" with the drag.

I guess I get it. I just couldn't imagine losing the fish of a lifetime due to using 20lb class tackle. But kudos for sure on the catches
I understand your concern, but it can be done with an experienced angler. I've landed many 40-60lb hoos trolling 20lb line on my avets in NC
Good luck in the Lantana Derby tomorrow - hope I weigh in a big 'un for ya.
Good job Capt!
