4/25 Jupiter Inlet Report

Got the invite from a forum member and friend (Josh, aka Reel Epic Charters) who just got a really nice 36' Contender with new Yamaha 300's. Boat is really nice, and it has everything you could ever need and he runs charter trips to the bahamas specializing in big wahoo and yellowfin tunas. Really impressive running 40 MPH in chopped up seas today well offshore.

Some of you have probably seen some of the Wahoo this guy has caught over the last couple of years, he truely has it down to a science. I thought he was joking this morning, but he actually called it when we were going to get the wahoo strikes.

We started out on the troll straight out of Jupiter and had one really big strike but somehow missed the hooks. After running through some scattered weeds and clearing lines, we changed gears and landed three dolphin for the kill box. No real specific depth to the fins, one was out deep 300+ and the other two were between 115-175.

The big excitement and eventual buzzkill for us was the wahoo we had come into our spread like a torpedo (it hits the port side rigger bait behind the boat coming out of the water) and seeing the gerth and size of this fish was pretty epic. Unfortunately for us it bit right through the wire and hey thats going to happen with these fish.

Pretty active fishery this morning, water was pretty nice out deep (but the seas were building some). It was a nice day of fishing, and its always good getting to learn new things from guys that have proven methods.

Hopefully more productive trips ahead!
