Depends on shot placement. My son took this 375 lb TN bear with a single head shot from a 1894 Marlin 44 mag stoked with Hornady Leverevolution. Head shot you could get away with a 158 gr JFP 357. Double lung with a 45/70 you might be chasing it for a long way. Any thing below the diaphram, with anything less than a magnum rifle starting with .300 or better you better pack a lunch.
