but I just got final clearance for graduation with PhD in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
Started in Jan 2011, finished in Feb 2015.
It will not directly affect my job, but it does open up a number of possibilities making 1.5 to 2 times what I make now.

From the guy who says education isn't necessary! Hilarious.
Back to the OP. Mad, great effort and great for you to see it through. Getting it done in four years seems nearly impossible these days. What were you promised for your Post-Doc? I am sure there is a great university post out there waiting for you if you are willing to give up G-ville and FL all together.....Fort Collins......Duluth......Oregon State Univ.....but you likely know little about salmonids. Let us know wat you do. Again, nothing like the feeling of satisfaction of getting that behind you. Time to live some life.
I will not do a post-doc. In essence, I did my post-doc before my PhD as a faculty scientist for the past 15 years. My publication record and research impact (h-index) are comparable to many full professors of my age.
I'm waiting for the perfect job to come along then I will make a move. Probably as a tenure track prof, but I'm open to other ideas.
Everglades National Park had a sweet job ($100K) as supervisory ecologist for Florida Bay based in Key Largo. Its a job I know I could do, but my background is more freshwater. Not that the science and techniques are not transferable from fresh to salt, but that was a great job and it was highly competitive.

heh. I don't discriminate based upon credentialling. "That's educationalist!".
I can prove it. Some of my closest friends are PhDs.
UF has an NMFS recruitment lab (RTR) that is a direct pipeline into NMFS. I learned from the best and I know how to do stock assessments. It would be a complete change of direction for me. All of my work revolves around biogeochemical techniques to evaluate how aquatic ecosystem function, how they have changed over time and how they originally developed in the landscape.
Congratulations to you firstly. Secondly, I would love to learn more about what you are doing. Anything in the State of Florida library d-base that I can check out?

Sure, and this goes for anybody, PM me your email and I will send you a recent pdf on Lake Lochloosa near Gainesville and a link to my google scholar page that is an automatically updated bibliography of my work and its impact.
Congrats!
Always figured that a smart person would
eventually show up on this site.
