American Kennel Club Says Labrador Retriever Top Dog Again
Good Morning America By ABC NEWS 19 hours ago
American dog owners have spoken and once again they say they love Labrador retrievers.

The family-friendly breed of dogs is atop the American Kennel Club’s list of the Most Popular Dogs in the U.S., for the 24th consecutive year

“The Lab truly is America’s dog,” AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo said in a statement.

The AKC’s 2014 list, released today, shows German shepherds, golden retrievers, bulldogs and beagles following Labrador retrievers in the top five.

The beagle, which ranked number five on the AKC list, saw its breed get attention earlier this year when a Beagle named Miss P, from British Columbia, took home the top Best in Show honor at the Westminster Kennel Club Show earlier this month.

The AKC's most popular list is derived from the number of dogs within each breed registered with the club, an AKC spokeswoman told ABC News.

The bulldog moved up one spot, into number four, above the beagle, on this year's list. The AKC attributes the bulldogs' rise to the breeds’, “natural tendency to form strong bonds with kids, an easy-to-care-for coat and minimal exercise needs. “

A more specific type of Bulldog, the French bulldog, moved into the top 10, at number nine, this year for the first time in nearly 100 years, according to the AKC.

The Labrador retriever’s spot atop the Most Popular Breeds’ list continues its streak as the longest reign in AKC history.

Here is the full top 10 list of the 2014 Most Popular Dogs in the U.S.

1. Labrador Retriever

2. German Shepherd Dog

3. Golden Retriever

4. Bulldog

5. Beagle

6. Yorkshire Terrier

7. Poodle

8. Boxer

9. French Bulldog

10. Rottweiler

I'd have to agree, Lab is Top Dog.

He is a big crazy PITA. 95 pounds now but we love him to death. He's our pal. He is having an issue which he will be going back to the vet tuesday. He has some sort of skin rash. It started out on his back near his tail, has lost quite a bit of hair. We thought maybe it was food so we changed him that, nope. Thought maybe it was the weather or he was " blowing out his coat" nope. Now he has a red rash on his belly and his arm( leg, whatever kinda) pits he has. he constantly is itchy so we put cortisone on him. Hopefully the vet can figure it out.

As an English Bulldog fan it's nice to see we are #4, but with popularity there are a lot of bad breeders, breeding bad genetics, trying to make quick money, as I'm sure is the case with all dog breeds. The French bulldog, which I love as well, has really jumped up in popularity. I wonder if the show Modern Family is somehow responsible for this?

I will be pet sitting my step daughters lab, not pure-breed, next week and she is the most gentle dog in the world. She has such a soft bite when getting treats out of my hand, whereas my corgi and bulldog didn't care if they drew blood while getting theirs. The lab lived with us for around a year and a half, but our corgi, which passed over a year ago but was the queen of this house, did not get along with well with her.

Get grain 100% percent out of his diet - especially corn. Hit him with a tablespoon of coconut oil on his food - it will go away. Mine has the same thing, you can tell when the kids feed him a corn chip or he steals some sweet feed from the barn - he starts itching.

    Australian shepherd at my house.

Most laid back dog ever, gets along with anything, other dogs, cats, people, chickens, etc.

A wade fisherman is the most simplistic but the most adept for the quarry they are after. They are immersed in their challenger's habitat and are in tune with the subtle changes of current, temperature and bottom. In order to be successful at this noble and primal fishing form one must be submerged from their goobs to their boobs, anyone doing this outside of that boundary is either sunbathing or swimming. My dog had something similar, the vet gave me some sort of ointment and it went away after a few weeks. No more issues with whatever it was.

Pretty hard to beat a lab.
Dogs are like women, you think you know what you like
then you meet one different than you thought you'd like
    and you like it anyway.

My wife grew up with pet Beagles (and only Beagles), I grew up with Beagles and other similar hounds as hunting dogs and they were savages. But now I have three Beagles living in my house, sitting on the sofa and sleeping in my bed.... As she likes to say "Be all you can Beagle."

A lady (janna ivey) I work w/ rescued a dog from pound and found out 2 weeks later the dog was pregnant.
Their are now 7 pups running around my office. I have been keeping the little girl until she finds a permanent home. I may keep her...
The pups were all born on Christmas.

Thats awesome. That's one cute little dog. If I had her for a few days I definitely wouldn't be able to give her up.

I like Labs well enough but would prefer a Chessie.

I know reading is not your strong suit but rice is grain - get the dog 100% off grain. Taste of the Wild and Blue Buffalo should both be available - read the ingredients. No rice corn or soy.
