With the forecasted light winds and calm seas, we decided to go offshore to get in on some more kingfish action. Got up early to hit up some of the local canals for bait. Mullet were packed in there tight. Two throws of the net and we had more than enough. Got to about 80 ft and saw numerous nervous bait pods so we put lines out on basic kingfish stinger rigs. We were definitely surprised on what was actually under all that bait, but no surprise as to why they were nervous.
Went 2 for 4 on the sails. Also I know it is best practice to leave them in the water for release, but it was my first sail ever. Got a quick picture and kicked the boat in gear for a healthy revival and release. Also picked up a good eating size king, decent mahi, and a pretty good sized spanish mac. Great day of fishing and only burned around 9 gallons of gas.:wink
