Miami to Bimini in June of 2015.

DJNCDJNC Posts: 15 Greenhorn
Hello. Im new to this forum. I have a 19 Cobia with a V6 inboard. I was told my boat would make it across with my 40 gallon tank. Im planning way ahead. Im looking to go the first week of June 2015. Anyone else trying to go? I live in NC and are planning this trip. Also do you think I will make it if I take an extra 6 gallon tank?

That is a possibility. I was supposed to go last June, but my buddy boat couldn't make it. Ended up with 10 days in the Keys instead, didn't want to do a first time crossing alone. How long do you plan on staying? Where do you live in NC?

I live in Durham. I can stay a few days due to some vacation I've got tucked away. I just don't want to go against people's experience saying don't go with a boat that small. Cant swim and thats too much water to drink....

What is your fuel burn rate? MPG? GPH? Cruise speed? At best it is 60 miles to Bimini. Plan for a little more and some extra for weather.

A boat your size can do it with the right weather window.

You say you cant swim? That would scare me to do this type of trip but if you're up for it go for it.

June - August seem like the best months weather wise.

I am planning to head over but not sure on any dates yet.

Not swimming isn't the issue. Falling in without a life jacket would be the issue. Let me know the dates.

Looking to go to Bimini in early June. Leaving out of Harbour Town out Port Everglades.ive been over before a few times and really enjoyed it. A little tricky though when trying to guess the weather. I'm looking for crossing buddy to make trip with. I'll have 4 on board and not sure if I'm staying at Bimini sands or renting a house. Hit me up if interested...

Looks like i had to change the date....
Monday August 3rd Im pulling out of NC to head that way. Staying a full 7 days. Scheduling at work pushed my vacation back. If anyone wants to go then or change their vacation to that day it would be nice.

Kepnbusy, when in June are you going? I am going June 2nd and coming back June 13th. We are leaving out of Harbour Towne and staying at The Sands also.

On a flat calm day, with no thunderstorms or mechanical breakdowns, your boat could possibly make the trip. The weather can and does change in an instant or you could have a serious boat related issue. I would not advise taking that risk! What happens if you break down? Do you expect another boat to tow you back to Florida? That would ruin your trip, plus another families trip. Seems like the perfect boat for a Fl Keys vacation. Much safer and you have the Florida Bay plus near shore reefs to explore.
Great Harbor Cay, Berry Islands, Bahamas
    pm me for rental info.

I won't make any plans until I see the weather the week before. But I'll keep the dates in mind

I completely understand that. The 2nd and 13th are the dates that I plan to cross, but of course weather has the final say so.
