1820 Top Speed

Hey all, I'm a little concerned with the top speed of my 1820 Action Craft (07 hull). I have a 150 HP Optimax on the back and I'm seeing top speeds of 46-47 MPH under ideal conditions. Is that normal? I bought the boat in January and was hoping to see 50+. I'm seeing 46/47 MPH @ roughly 5500 RPM's.

Anyone out there with a similar set up able to post their numbers?

What size prop are you turning?

Same boat, 140 Suzuki, Power Tech 4 blade, 39 mph, not a speed demon but great hole shot and mid range.

I have a 1720se with the same power and she runs 53 to 55 mph with a medium load and 59 to 60 mph extremely light without trolling motor our trolling motor batteries.

Your 1820 should run about the same speed as the 1820 as it is narrower than my 1720se.

Gah sorry for delay on this thread.

I'm not sure on the prop size, how do I find that out?

I have a 4 blade prop if that helps. Also, @ WOT with no changes to the trim or jackplate my RPM's are actually just over 5000. I can get it up over 5500 if I trim it up a good bit. Maybe switch to a 3 blade prop?

Heavily loaded 1820 SE with a 60 degree 150 two stroke Johnson/ powertech OFX4 19 pitch prop. 49-51 mph with super holeshot. Best all around boat I have ever owned! I do have a hydraulic jack plate and a modified low water pickup on the gearcase.

Ive got a 2000 1820 (pre-qui/dry)with an '05 Yamaha VMax HPDI 150 with a three blade prop and can run 53-54 jacked up/trimmed out @ 5800-5900 rpm fully loaded with fishing gear and 2 guys - had it to 57/58 when i first bought it in '09 but that was totally empty of gear and low fuel. I think you'll see your desired speeds if you switched and went with a 3 blade prop.
