Somebody Lost a Good Fishery this Week

A friend of mine was down in Pompano Beach today and sent me these pics. Panicked for a bit thinking they were of my favorite lake. 50 acre pond down the tubes.

To quote him "Massive bass floating dead. And an unbelievable amount of Threadfin shad all dead".

Ill see if I can get the name. It was in Pompano Beach. Thats all his texts said. Aside from several curse words.

Im hoping someone on here that lives down there will know this lake and fill us in. Im curious to know what killed these fish. The eel grass looks very healthy. Guessing it was weed or pest control.

I've seen it before, after francis and jeanne moved through the east coast my parents pond (about an 1/8 of an acre) quadrupled in size and the bass in the lake died off. It was unfortunate because there was a 7 pound in there :banghead

Possible runoff of pesticides/herbicides, die off of blue green algae, hmmmm, turn over of oxygen depleted water into epilimnion due to high winds down the length of the pond, introduction or sudden increase in flow of saltwater, geez, I'm going back 30 years now.

Found out this lake is in an industrial area. Im willing to bet it was caused by run off. All speculation of course.
