Awesome. Thanks guys. So what bait do they usually go for?
There not picky !! Caught them on every thing in
the box !! I dont target them though !! All my mudfish
are caught by accident !! (Bass fishing ) I actually think
there a pain in the @$$ !! But they can put up a pretty
good fight !!:shrug

Yea we caught that one with a watermelon red finesse worm with the intent on catching bass. It was definitely a good little fight. How big do they usually get?
I caught one that was 27 and a half pounds on a spinner bait . Found out later would have been a new world record . Oh Well Gave it to a red neck that ate it !!!!
They spawn late winter , early spring . When they guard their fry ( look like baby bullheads ) they will attack anything . Including you if you are wading !
BD27 ... **** 27 1/2 lbs !!!! Thats huge !!
Bet that was a fun fight !!
Never weighed any of the ones I've caught
but best guess biggest I would say 10/12 lbs
an I thought that was huge !! Would have like to
seen that one you had !!
Thats one big mudder !!!!!!!!

Lake Bisteaneau Spill way in Louisiana
I friend of mine caught one on Caddo Lake (LA/TX) that he guessed at 35lbs
I put mine on a scale
I remember when I was younger my father took me fishing for my birthday (I think it was my 7th or 8th) with some of my friends at a local park. I hooked a very large bowfin (well it looked huge to me, it was probably 20") and one of my friend's father went to unhook it for me. Clearly he did not fish much as he started grabbing it by the lip, before my dad could say they have teeth it clamped down on his thumb.
And that was the first time I had ever heard a grown man cry like a girl.

Cypress trout ?? Thats a new one !!!! I like it ...:grin
I've had em jump while on the hook, and even caught em on a fly. Most of the time they're a fun fight. Every now and then you get a dud.
Usually the most expensive one you got and then render it useless. :banghead
