Publix premium skinless chicken breast is $3.89 lb YMMV

And they're $1.99 lb at Wallyworld. Almost half the price. Like I said.

Because their "match" was meant to damage its competitors...but they could not keep it up...so they were DEFEATED. Now theyt are doing some smart phone app give you the difference if you scan in your reciept gift card crap-o-la...

I wonder how that works with all the " swipe yo EBT " card holders...pretty good I bet...some money on a gift card to get pack of cigs and liquor....

They only did it on a trial basis in the first place. They thought by doing so it would sway more people away from the competition permanently but it did not happen. They could buy and sell WD and the rest of them if they so chose to. I will say it sells more matching a bogo than the actual store that runs the bogo. Or at least up here in the panhandle.

There is no reason why certain staples cost 30 - 40% more at Publix.

Sure there is. They have more employees per customer than Walmart for one reason. That extra help costs money. They also pay the help better, which costs extra money.

Those extra employees keep the store cleaner, better stocked, and provide better customer service. I will pay the extra for that.

I have occasionally gone into the SuperCenter near my house, but only at 3am when no other customers are there so I don't get stuck in a 30 minute checkout line. I can buy what I need at Publix and be gone while you are standing in line at the register.

I shop at a local "county" place called Wards. Been here for a long time. Your cashier may be the owners MIL or Grandma.

They cater to local foods and farmers, country folk and hippies.

GREAT place, and they have a "Wall of Beer".

Do most of you have access to a good local grocer?

    http://www.wardsgainesville.com/
Ward’s Supermarket is the only locally-owned and operated grocery in Gainesville. Our family has been committed to providing the best selection, quality and prices for more than 60 years. We offer a bountiful array of fresh local produce, seafood, meat, baked goods, beer and wine and much more! We are dedicated to freshness, and you can see the difference throughout our store. Enjoy our truly original offerings, such as family-secret home-made jellies, sauces, dressings and salsa. Choose a loaf of fresh, locally made bread to go along with our wide selection of reasonably-priced wine and imported cheeses. Select some fresh meat or seafood to grill for dinner, and enjoy the variety of fresh, local vegetables available to go with it!

In a hurry? Pick up some of our famous barbeque and homestyle accompaniments for a wholesome and satisfying meal. Whether you need just a few things for dinner, or a week’s worth of nutritious food, we are happy to serve you.

Wards is nice, but they don't have everything. Great place for meat and veggies, organic foods, bulk spices, etc.

When I lived in FL. Publix was my store of choice. Are they still closed on Sundays?

I dont understand why any American would shop at Wal mart.

Probably because it is either the only choice or has cheaper products. They problem they had with the BOGO's is that they put no limits on some of the items. People would clear the shelves. Winn Dixie's prices are much higher than WM. Some stuff they just don't have either.

Speaking of Grocery Stores, anyone ever shop a Fresh and Easy? It appears they are opening one here in Gainesville and I have never heard of them before

Possibly, but cheaper is not always better when you support a company that doesn;t take care of its employees, supports anti sportsman causes, and forces manufacturers to sell their product at a lower cost or be black balled.

No thanks, I am not supporting China-Mart, regardless if they are cheaper. And they are

We shop at three different stores. Really all we have. Wal-mart, Winn Dixie and Sav-a-lot. I don't think the employees are 100% happy in any of them. I wasn't in my job either. For Publix, we have to drive 45 minutes or so 1 way.

31 miles from where I am staying to the one I went to today. Of course everything is 30 miles or so away. If there was a whole foods closer I would have gone there but that is somewhere around 70 miles

I'll never understand why those that can afford it do not shop elsewhere. Even union guys shop there and I think that is seriously screwed up considering wally world is anti-union.

The worst part about Walmart is they have used the money they made off of the average person to lobby against hunting and fishing. They are clearly behind all this crazy fishing regulations too.

LOL. I have a friend that refuses to eat my Yard eggs from free range chickens, instead opting for Egglands Best, "because they are better for you". Yet she woofs down any desserts my wife makes with these eggs any chance she gets. Cakes, pies, brownies, you name it. Nothing wrong with Sav-a-lot chicken either. Got 3 more 10 lb bags in the freezer to smoke.
