Last weeks thread about big dogs nudged emotions unfelt for a few years. As a kid we always had german shepherds, I recall only two Rex and Fritz. As I settled in to a 1800 square foot townhouse I decided to get me a dog. Ultimately I settled on a Great Dane; Baron. A pure black beauty with a half dollar white diamond on his chest. He was on the smaller side standing six foot tall on his hind legs; front paws on my shoulders and just over a hundred pounds. I believe this might have been one of the reasons he live almost thirteen years.
He was crate trained and off leash obedient. He was one who did not like the water. He had his spot on the bow of the boat but preferred to not disembark at the sandbar. Once he realized his belly didn't touch the water he would become the life of the party.
Although at the time of the photo Mrs. DEEP and I had choice words as we understood although he was large enough his body was not conducive to supporting the weight of our son. She assured me this photo was no more than a few seconds of our son sitting on Barons shoulders:
thanks for sharing
