Gators, Driskel, and Muschamp

So.... According to Muschamp, he's all in on Driskel. I can appreciate the stand behind your man philosophy and I'm sure it's good for Driskel and his confidence to know the mad ball coach is behind him but what does that say about our program and our direction? Is Harris that far behind or is Muschamp being stubborn? As I sit home with my very first kidney stone, my mind has been wondering. I just don't want to see the team with all the talent we have lose hope as they did last year. What do my fellow Gators think? Stay the course or give the back up some reps?

    STAY THE COURSE!

Ropers offense is perfect for Driskel. He needs more snaps.

Has muschamp ever pulled a player?

We have the talent but do not have any visible leaders. In order to win this game someone has to step up and fill that role. This is indeed a winnable game but we will have to put together a 4 quarter game. Don't lose hope yet.

I talked to a RB late last week. He said there were some minor personnel changes designed to help score more points. He said they had all their goals in front of them still and a lot of season left. I didn't get the feel that they were in panic mode like some fans are. I'm actually more concerned about the defensive secondary than the offense. But in my gut-- and not what I was told or implied by the RB--I think we see Treon for a set or 2 if the offense is sputtering.

Neyland Stadium is not the place to play TH even if (when) Driskel starts stinking it up.

reading a lot where driskel is playing scared. Isn't that going to keep him from standing up and being a leader? And if that's the case, who is going to lead if the QB isn't?

Tennessee.....then LSU, Missouri and Georgia. Luckily those three are home, but even so, if you don't play TH against Tennessee when do you?

No panic here. Just idle time awaiting the relief I'm hoping for in passing this stone! I agree that Neyland is not the place to drop a freshman and I also agree that our DB's are in for a rough time if they don't tighten up. With Orr and maybe one more D starter out, our boys are gonna have to pull it together for 60 min to have a chance.

With Driskel I see it more of a mental thing rather than scared. He has a problem if he throws a pass that should have by all rights been caught but gets dropped. It really messes with his head and he needs to shake that mess off and keep going to the well. No one is 100 %. But it will take a total team effort if they are going to win any more games in the brutal schedule.

I'm fine with Driskeel, if he stops over throwing 10+ times a game. Work on that and the offense gets better.

    Defense, cover tighter.

Driskel moved the ball fairly well against a great Bama team. If he can avoid big mistakes and hit those long passes he's been overthrowing, we should be able to win a bunch of games. If he loses to Tennessee, it might be time to go with plan B though.

Driskel doesn't have it period. Mischamp is gone. When will the "tweaking" actually start to work. Watching these freshmen play for other schools and doing well is killing me. Mischamp's ways are long gone as far as head coaching is concerned. Thank God Spurrier used to pull his QB's at Florida and start the best one. Shane Mathews was like a 4th stinger when the OBC got there. He knew how to choose the best guy. Terry Dean yanked for Wuerffel. Etc... Driskel is the one who plays like a true freshman and he has been in the spotlight. Two years ago they had a good running attack and Driskel was barely asked to pass. News flash. That doesn't work in football anymore.

Driskel was 9 for 28!!!! Even with the 3 or 4 drops he is 12 or 13 for 28. You should be able to put the game on your QB's shoulders if you need to and let him win it for you. Won't happen with him

Honestly, in my humble opinion what is the benefit of playing driskel if he is gone next year? Most of y'all have already accepted the thought of a 7-5 or 8-4 season...

Why not let Harris or Grier get the important reps?

You shut your **** mouth! Driskel 2.0 is gonna flourish in this custom-made offense. I support D-risk completely.

    What was I thinking?

They won't be any worse than him. Remember, Pease was the OC in 2012 and 2013 so Driskel should have come out with a bang in 2013 after being in the system a year but his pocket presence was not good. Right before he got injured he threw that pick 6 at Tennesee after looking like a deer in headlights against UM when the rush was on. Brissett at NC state has had the same amount of offensive coordinators and has barely played up until now. Can anybody here see the difference

His pocket presence has never been good. He was NEVER a pocket guy in HS to begin with, IIRC

All I've got to say is that Brisett looked better in one game vs FSU than any body of work I've ever seen Driskel put together.

Tyler Murphy ain't looking to bad either, see a trend?

You got it. Brissett has been playing great all year. If your QB can't hang in the pocket and pass occasionally without panic, he shouldn't be starting

Would like an upgrade at QB as well, but it's not like you can pick up a free agent like the NFL. And no, Treon is probably not ready to be a full time starter . Hope to see him in some Saturday though. If you were a first year coach rebuilding a team , you could afford to throw Treon to the SEC. I sort of wish the Gators would do the 2 quarterback thing that Roper did at Duke.
  • 2amigo2amigo Posts: 8,923 Admiral
If he throws in Treon and the team looks like it is getting better over the course of time then Muschamp has a shot at keeping his job. Driskell will do in Muschamp I believe at this point. The way I see it they are rebuilding the team. 4 and 8 with a loss to GSU last year =
rebuild. Brad Kaaya (freshman) could very well save Golden's job this year as long as the defense improves.

driskel was never good enough to be the starter and muschamp is a fool to keep with him
been saying for three years now, guess it won't change
maybe it's better that the fresman qb stays on the bench and the next coach can play him
