I would be happy if the cops just thought. Or could think. And could maybe run at least 100 yards without keeling over.

those that do in fact "think" will not be the ones with the cams, they are the supervisors behind the desk, team, etc. a point which I did not want to touch. The human factor, some LEO's presence alone is enough to deter crime. .. however are not the brightest bulb on the tree...I have realized with age, that signing that dotted line back then, serving, I was young, determined, full of "initiative". That initiative will be hesitant, if I know I am under constant surveilence (spell).

Makes sense. I think for the most part, a law enforcement officers failure is not so much a personal failure, but a failure in training and education which could be blamed in part, on those behind the desks.

I believe they should be worn as long as it doesn't disrupt their ability to work. I think more IT staff will be needed to support these devices, storage to store the data, and vaulting capabilities for public access. Does the officer/SAO have the ability to delete any recordings that may or may not support a case? How long and where should the recordings be vaulted? Where will the $$ come from to support the devices and recordings (higher taxes)?

That's a great idea! Sounds like a hoot.
I have never seen live bones, but I know that they are often used by rich people to decorate the interior.

Are you that simple minded that you think only use of force encounters (Officer involved shootings) are the only incidents that will be recorded? You think officers have the magical crystal ball to determine when they may have to deploy use of force tactics at a moments notice so they better turn on the camera? It's not that simple!! Officers will be required to turn on the cameras on any call they're dispatched to, whether it be a domestic or, unfortunately, a sex bat case involving a minor. You want some innocent victim to be streamed over the interweb for you, any many other perverts pleasure, I think not.

Don't get to undignified, the police invited Hollywoods cameras into their lives long ago. Where was your outrage when those cameras were recording all manner of police actions. There are entire shows dedicated to police busting underage sex criminals and the johns that exploit them.

Remember, if it's on camera, it's entertainment.

Maybe some real footage of the carnage caused by drunk driving, overdosing, domestic violence and what it looks to be really shot (as opposed to Hollywood shot) would do this country a world of good. Maybe little BA with a gun would not be so quick to pull it after he watches some other little BA take 15 shots to the body and fall down dead.

You're correct, BSO opened the doors back in the eighties, however, Sheriff Nick controlled every aspect of what would be aired. Lets compare apples to apples. Everything on the TV show COPS, is controlled by the sheriff along with producers of the show. Their crew members will ride with officers for weeks to capture enough, allowable footage, for one episode. Majority, if not all, footage involves cases or incidents that have allowed a suspect/s their due process. Secondly, EDITING plays a huge role in the show. Addresses are removed, full names are removed, DL numbers are removed and so on.

I was part of a cocaine documentary filmed by the Discovery channel several years back. When producers met with us, prior to filming, we had to sign a waiver to allow our faces to be aired. They also had to obtain a waiver from any and all subject/s we encountered/interviewed during raids/warrants etc,. If the person refused to sign the waiver, most did, their face would be censored if that footage was used.

So what do you think would happen if every time a LEO's body cam went directly to Youtube?

I know that you've never been a leo or military..........by what you have said....so maybe you have no idea what they actually do.....you and a whole lot others who seem to be swayed towards giving the law breakers a extra bit of the "benefit of the doubt" when it comes to an altercation.

......"IF"... a leo was being shot at he would be moving and his body cam footage would not be very good.....of course when he jumped up and waffled said puke with 4 158 gr hollow points I am sure you would see that and want to send him to prison.

By the way....LEO's work for their paycheck....just like you do....

The agency I work for has had Body cams for years. When i was on the road i wore one daily and uploaded it to a dedicated server. I would say 8 out of 10 officers on the road right now have a body cam pinned to them somewhere as well as in car cameras. I still currently have one assigned to me and I work in CID. I use it whenever I am out talking to people(Suspects as well as victims and witness's). They are a great tool to help us in all situations.

As far as availability to the general public all of our videos no matter how insignificant are treated as evidence and are turned in as such with a property receipt. They are kept as long as are necessary and according the rules of evidence. A normal citizens will not get a copy without a order or without the videos being requested as part of discovery.
