Set out yesterday am around 7:30 am with the ole lady to see if we could find a few fish as because of schedules and weather it had been weeks since we had been out. Went to one of my favorite spots for the wind conditions that were predicted and it took a little while but we finally found some bait. Started working the area despite no significant signs of red schools or predations and mainly did it using the trolling motor as the overcast conditions and murky but not too terrible water really wasn't conducive to sight fishing. Water temps were around 80 and I had one decent hit on a weedless rigged paddle tail, felt like a red, but he got loose. Threw some top water while she fished with live shrimp and finally worked my way to the ole trusty jerk bait which produced a 19 1/2 inch trout. While boating the trout, the dang thing snapped about three inches off the tip of my favorite rod. He was a fatty, but it should not have happened. I baby my rods, especially the tips, but I gotta figure there was some damage. A pretty hefty rain storm chased us back to the ramp to wait it out and then back to work to see if I could make the day a little better. The rain didn't do much for the water temp but it got the reds going and I quickly landed a 26 3/4 incher using the same jerk bait that produced the trout. We stayed after it for a bit and I continued with the same jerk bait which produced another red right at 18 and a trout at about 14 1/2. No reds or trout for her, just a few catfish on the shrimp. I saw a lot of reds, mostly lone cruising upper slot and some mid 30 class who weren't interested but I'm not complaining about what we ended up with for only a few hours of work. We were back at the ramp by about noon.
Tight lines all.
