Sebastian 9 - 26

So, My son and I had plans to duck hunt but again the weather was bad for a long run. With the rain we've been having and only Teal being open my son was fine with some fishing instead. Got to the ramp and it was spitting rain. Cap't Glynn Austin was there and was waiting on clients. A couple storms came and went and by 7:45 we headed out in spitting rain.
The water in the river is now horrific!....not just tannin but full of junk and not clear...silty.
My son scored first on a catfish...then a jack....but I got this.

My son had the dreaded "hit & Spit" on a huge Red...:banghead
We kept at it and finally the weather broke somewhat and we caught 3 "Double headers" on Redfish. All the fish except 1 which was kept ( 26 1/2" ) were over slots...28-31 inches.

It was nice to get to fish with my boy.....doesn't happen nearly enough.

Sounds like an awesome day of fishing. 3 double ups is a hell of a way for a father/son trip to end up!

Edit: I wish i had been smart like your boy. Opted to chase the little brown birds yesterday morning. Long sit and no birds made for a long morning, but as I was pulling out from the Shilo ramp i looked across the levy and saw a fellow with a fly rod about doubled over on a well overslot red... :banghead, At least now I dont have to make that decision for another 2 months,:fishing

Thanks, With it only being teal open...and a whole season to kill those it was an easy choice...and we knew we would go try them on Saturday.
I don't know about MINWR...but we've had 8 inches of rain in 2 days down here in the upper basin and that flooded out all of our teal spots.

There was a good bit more water that i'm used to out there, even in the shilo areas...the teal are all partying in the flooded pastures.

Way to catch them Joe. That water is way high and filthy dirty. I turned on my underwaters the other night on outgoing and I thought they weren't working at first, but then I realized it was that I couldn't see them through that chocolate milk that we call river water.

Thanks Ryan. We fished yesterday but it was slower since sighting was very difficult. I got this Red early on plastic down south

and my son got a real nice trout and a few jacks. We netted bait and wound up doing a little better. Had 1 shot at a few big girls but when the mullet hit the water...a huge school bus jack inhaled it and took 15 minutes to land it...and when we were done we could not find them again in the clouds and rain. Went back south to a few spots and caught 5 more slot Reds a big blue and a couple more jacks before quiting.

With all this rain we are set to get this week...water is going to look bad for a good while I'm afraid....

Yes Russ...It is crazy. There is a really bad halocline with all that sweet water sliding over the top...It is super fresh and I was seeing Hyacinths and other freshwater SAV being flushed out the St. Sebastian. The only fish I saw in it were big alligator gar. It will be a while to straighten out....and that sewage release into Turkey creeks watershed is not very helpful.
