Think this was covered here before but can't find the thread.
Anyway, I was in WinnDixie today and bought me two large bags of raw peanuts.
Gonna be soooooo good this weekend when watching the games.
Plus resurrects great memories:
Back in my camping days when my son and his friends were in their early teens, I would go over to the Bear Den Campground produce stand along the Tuckasegee River in Bryson City, NC.
Out front they always had two giant caldrons of boiling peanuts over open fires.
Would usuall buy four 1-pound paper sacks, hot out of the kettle . . . knowing the kids in back of the truck would wipe out two before we ever got back to our campground.
:thumbsup
Most important part was that in our camping group of seven families with a total of about 16 kids back then, all turned out well. Never any crime problems and all but a couple earned at least a bachelors degree. One doctor and a few others with various advanced degrees. Most now are successful, have their own families, and a few are repeating the pattern.
I am proud and happy about that.

The problem at least here, is that it is difficult to find good green peanuts. There are only two places that have them - occasionally - and they're usually small. If I travel just a couple counties north I can find some good sized ones.
I use a fish cooker with a big pot, but I usually do a bunch and put some up. Just dump them in and start them boiling. I put in probably a half of a box of salt or so. It's not that important how much. The peanuts don't really absorb the salt until they are cooling. Just boil them until they as soft as you like, then turn the fire off. They will be pretty bland at this time. As they cool. try some every 15 min or so until the salt is right. When they are salty enough for you, bag them all. Try putting smoked neck bones in them for something a little different.

Those are raw... but not green...
None of any quality in Brevard... unless you want to buy oranges or sod... and really not even oranges any more...
True, in S. Florida you have to make your own but I remember back when the Florida Panthers played at the old Miami Arena in Overtown there used to be an old black gentleman that used to set up on the sidewalk outside the arena with a cooler full of (still warm) boiled peanuts. I used to grab a couple bags and stuff them in my pants before I entered the arena to watch the hockey games. They were great. Of course this was pre 911 when security wasn't so tight.

I know, I'm a northern boy and have no moral right to be commenting on bald (or is it baald) peanuts. But I discovered cajun style, in the can, while in S FL a few years ago, and can't get enough of them. Now when back home I order from Amazon. Pour 'em out, heat 'em up, dig in. Would love to make my own but raw peanuts are a bit hard to find when you live not too far from the Canadian border.
I've heard folks gush about how great they are for years. A couple years ago I was riding the motorcycle thru NC or north Georgia and stopped at a roadside vendor selling boiled peanuts. I was not impressed by the taste and threw almost all of them out. I did enjoy the 1/2 hour or so I spent talking with the guy so I figured it time and money well spent. Still...is it possible he just had crappy product? Try it again? Or is it more of an acquired taste...There's very few things I don't eat but these were just plain bland and mushy.
