East Central Inshore Lagoon - 8/31 -- Buggy Whip action!

Weather coincided with the work schedule this week, and the forcast for this morning was promising. Clear skys and light winds were the prediction. With the hot weather, i decided to fish a regular flat close to the launch, as I did not plan to stay out long in this heat. On the water by 6:15, first boat out of the ramp. Winds were light as predicted by from the complete opposite direction as was forecasted. I was on the wrong side of the lagoon for the winds but i decided to gut it out and fish the first light bite there. I covered alot of water with a surface plug and after a while i fooled a squirt of a trout onto the hooks. Skunk off.

There was mullet in every direction, and i was alone on the flat, but the winds were just uncooperative for this area. I decided motor south a ways to find an easier approach to the wind.
Within minutes on the push pole i started to see fish pushing wakes. The wind was much more conducive for this area, and the drift carried me in the right direction. I decided to give fly rod a shot, and started throwing a crystal minnow into the mullet schools. Didnt take long before a hungry red pounced on my fly.

My 2nd Redfish on the FlyRod. 19inches.

Swam off strong into the grassy murk.

Followed the same plan as before and continued working the mullet schools as the wind carried me south. Few hundred yards later, and I picked up another red, this one a little smaller at 15inches, but still a fun fight on a flyrod.

Things slowed down after that and quite a few boats were around working the grass. Temps had climed to 90F and by 10:30 i decided to turn for the ramp and call it a day.

You did get one tho, so that stubborness paid off in the end. It's always hard to call quits when you know theres a hungry redfish just around the point.

But my god that sun is enough for me. That thing is blazing by 10-11 it's enough to send me packing, fish or not.
