Can anyone tell by this old photo if this is a baby King, a large Spanish, or a Cero Mackerel? I caught it while flat lining chunk bait back into a chum slick catching Yellowtail. No wire, treble hook in corner of mouth.
Thanks. Back in the day we thought it was a baby king, but as I looked at more and more fish species books I began to believe this was a Cero. Any one ever target or eat Cero, smoke them like kings?
Except for Wahoo, Cero is the best eating Mackerel in our waters. Some prefer it over Wahoo as it doesn't dry out as much. Great eating fish and yes they are targeted over the reefs. No need for smoking, as mentioned, they are excellent in many other types of preparation.
