It should be another fun year of CFB and OSU may not win the Big.
I think they will and you don't... It's ok to disagree.
Two out of Three on bleacher report don't see OSU beating MSU. One guy has them losing to PSU and MSU.
Their predictions:
12-0 National Champions
11-1 loss to MSU
10-2 losses to MSU and PSU
All mention the Cincy game as an early one to watch.
A loss to MSU all but guarantees they don't make the Big Ten title game or the play off.
Pretty much what I've been saying all along - except these guys don't mention Miller being injury prone. Just so you know, Miller hasn't been hit since Clemson. Meyer said that Miller is not 100% since the shoulder surgery and he is protecting Miller during practice. Miller probably won't be hit until the first game against Navy.
If Urbie runs him like they did last year, he will get hurt. No doubt about it.
Tebow lifted (and out lifted) with the OL and DL. he was crazy strong and could take all the hits in the world. This is one of the many reasons why i thought he would be the best FB in the NFL had he swallowed his pride.
The comparisons? Tebow was a Bull moose, Miller is more like a male florida buck. Fast, agile, but not a threat to run you down and bowl you over.
If Urbie runs him like they did last year, he will get hurt. No doubt about it.
Meyer has no choice but to run him. Due to the shoulder injury against Clemson Miller has missed all of spring - summer and the first week of fall practices, that means his throwing likely has not improved.
The only real hope for a power running game was Ezekiel Elliott and he fractured his arm last week. They are saying he should be a go against Navy, but we will see.
The only real positives I see this year:
1) Speed on offense, but this is a double edged sword. Generally smaller speed players get banged up in the Big Ten and with a new OL you can almost count on Wilson missing a few quarters / games due to injury.
2) The defense should be beast this year, but after last year it is hard to imagine.
O/U on quarters missed by Braxton Miller this season due to injury at 5. Do you go over or under?
Under: 9 votes
Over: 7 votes
I mean really, we're just blindly guessing at this point, right? I think I set the O/U on 4 last year, and I suspect if I did that again, the over might have won. Just about everybody expects Miller to miss a little bit of time this year, and everybody hopes it isn't more than a game.
I mean, OSU is known for defense but under Urbie it has underwhelmed in my opinion. Obviously, last year was a statistical outlier. The play makers have been there (ex: Shazier) but otherwise I haven't been as impressed with his defenses at OSU as I was with them @ UF.
1) On multiple threads you had MSU beating tOSU.
2) I didnt care who the QB was going to be... the "system" is why tOSU is good, not one player. As stated and quoted.

Zimm, sometimes its alright to be wrong. Takes a big man to admit to being wrong.

Yes, I called MSU over tOSU in JULY we were talking about Miller as QB, how did that pan out?
I was wrong in July, and I still thought that MSU was going to win the game if you asked me friday night.
Zimm, sometimes its alright to be wrong. Takes a big man to admit to being wrong.
You're bringing up old posts from 7/31 to prove a point?
C'mon bro.
Also, you can claim it's the "system" and Leak was an average QB (he was) but this tOSU team doesn't have the elite defense that TT did in 2008. Apples and Oranges. Same coach, wildly different teams.
ELITE defenses , the good old days !!!!! There is not a single team regardless of conference that has an ELITE defense this year !!!! And it pains me to say that . It is wide open this year . I can't stand tOSU , but if they get in I honestly don't see anyone that they can not out score . Maybe Oregon can hang with them ??? Forget about TCU or Baylor there is no defense in the Big 12 at all ! FSU will not be able to come in and play 1 half of football in the playoffs , and they have not proven that they can play a full game yet . 49 points on a MSU defense in E Lansing is impressive , and scary !
There aren't even any Elite teams this year let alone defenses. We have a bunch of very good teams, but no clear cut, dominant team such as FSU was last year, Bama before that etc.
FSU needs to get their heads out of their rear ends in the 1st half or we'll get molly whopped in the 1st round.
You made a good call in July and your bet is still live. I am pleasantly pleased with the outcome of Saturdays game.
You can claim that you made the call in July and was right and be right, but if someone asked you to bet $50 on the MSU game after the PSU game two weeks ago I seriously doubt you would have accepted. OSU is a YOUNG team who will only be better next year and the following year. 2015 will be a playoff year for sure with OSU likely being undefeated.
I can't stand tOSU , but if they get in I honestly don't see anyone that they can not out score .
They can not score with any team that loads the box and brings 7 every snap. MSU did not rush near as much as I expected and I think that is what cost them the game. The offense IS dangerous but is not unstoppable.
I have never eaten a booger in my entire life. -Jim Harbaugh
So it's not the system of the HC of the team bringing all the wins? Lol
As usual Zimm, you do NOT have the ability to give credit where credit is due.
Urban F'ed over UF, so what! He is a good coach, a lot of you guys take this stuff way to personal.
You just said you would have picked MSU Friday night, No?
I picked MSU in July and I picked MSU Friday night and if the two teams were to play again tomorrow I'd pick MSU again.
JT is ONLY as good as his offensive line and they are 4/5 freshmen. If the offensive line plays like they played against PSU, MSU wins. The offensive line has played well one game this year, against MSU.
JT has a killer arm and amazing touch, but when the pressure comes he gets antsy and makes poor decisions as seen in the VT and PSU games. To be honest, I am completely surprised D'Antonio did not bring more heat. He said post game "We couldn't stop them" I said "You didn't try". JT is ONLY a Freshman though, so the rest of you guys better watch out, that kid is going to be good the next 2-3 years and so will his offensive line.
I have never eaten a booger in my entire life. -Jim Harbaugh
And.... If the buckeyes didn't miss the opening fg then Dontre fumbling the kickoff we would have been up 59 37. Buckeye I like you, but I honestly think we could out score anyone in CFB. Not by 50 but if we stopped turning the rock over I believe we would win against anyone of those top 4 teams.
You have a lot of IF's.
Likewise.
IF the offensive line holds up against a team who utilizes the rush an entire game like Va Tech or PSU, I agree with you.
IF the offensive line crumbles like they did with VA Tech and most of PSU, JT will struggle.
Don't get me wrong, I am pleasantly surprised they made it through the 3 game night game stretch with out a loss. I am simply stating we shouldn't get our hopes up on this YOUNG team. Next year there will be no excuse not to go undefeated and be a lock for the play offs. You very well could see Ohio State preseason rank #1 and hold it all year.
I have never eaten a booger in my entire life. -Jim Harbaugh
I remember someone wanting to give Urban back not long ago. :huh
:grin
I have news for anyone trying to do that, we don't want him back. He's in his "dream job" now, in a conference where the linemen are slow, and the sheep are scared anyway.
Didn't you also agree Urban would be in Columbus for 5-6 years? This is year 3 so he is half way.
Lets not pretend Columbus and Buckeye Nation is in love with a guy who won one meaningful game in the last 2 1/2 years. Many of those who praised the hire back in 2011 have since gone silent. If you look around any respectable Buckeye message board, buckeye planet or 11W you will see countless people questioning the coaching staff and play calling. No one is calling for Meyer to be fired - yet - but the play calling of games like MSU 2013, Clemson, VA Tech, and PSU are certainly being questioned.
Meyer and Tom Herman have shown glimmers of brilliance, but they both have also shown a lack of faith in their players. JT Barrett **** near blew his knee out against PSU with all the QB draws up the middle. There is no reason that kid should have ran 20 times that game.
I have never eaten a booger in my entire life. -Jim Harbaugh
The Big, where winning conference games does not matter, apparently.
Of course winning conference games matter, but lets not pretend The Big Ten is a powerful conference. The Big Ten probably ranks 4th in the power 5 conferences just ahead of the ACC and slightly behind the Big 12.
Care to share w/ the class what Urbans record vs Big10 foes is?
Sure.
He is 21 and 1 versus the Big Ten (against ranked teams 5 and 2) with no big ten titles and no bowl wins. Truth be told there is no reason a strong Ohio State team should lose at all in the Big Ten - it is a weak conference.
I am not down playing what Meyer has accomplished in Columbus, but let us not forget that there are still important goals that need to be reached. I am simply not ready to anoint him the savior that some did when he took over the program.
Is he a better coach than Luke Fickell - absolutely.
Is he a better coach than Jim Tressel? To be determined, but I'd bet that at the end of Meyer's tenure JT has a better winning percentage in all games that matter (Big Ten champions and Bowl games).
He did make some interesting statements yesterday regarding the QB position. Previously when he was asked who the starting QB is, he ALWAYS said Braxton Miller. Yesterday he stated:
Meyer's change of tune Monday about the future of Ohio State's quarterback position is not only fair to the fans but also to the two players involved.
"Competition brings out the best, and I'm really excited to have two really good quarterbacks next year," Meyer said Monday. "That's the plan. I think they're both excellent quarterbacks. Excellent quarterbacks. And we'll worry about that day when it comes."
I am glad to see him publicly state there will be competition for the position next year. Previously he made it seem like he intended to simply hand the reigns back to Braxton upon his return (which I don't think is likely anyways).
It's widely rumored that the OSU v scUM game will be at 8 pm this year. If Meyer hangs a hundo on them for Hoke's going away party, maybe I'll change my tune, ok?

Should be. Most of the D will be Juniors or Seniors.
I'm not a huge fan of OSU bringing in Larry Johnson from Penn St, but the heat will really be on Fickell this year to have the team in shape.

Reading is your friend.
Are you now saying you had tOSU in Saturdays game? Please say yes.
Where did I make a wrong call?
2008 Gata won because of someone named Tim Tebow, you must be thinking 2006?
Also, you can't compare the 2006 or 2008 Gata teams to tOSU in 2014 because those teams had ELITE defenses.
