New to Fl Whitetail hunting! Little help please?

Ranger98Ranger98 Posts: 7 Greenhorn
I have lived in FL most of my life, but spent the last 3 years in Louisiana due to a career transfer, during which time I started to hunt Whitetail Deer and truly enjoyed the sport.
I am now back HOME! Just looking for a little advice from the group on hunting Whitetail's in Florida? I am not looking for guided hunts or high fenced deer hunts, more interested in public land use or possible opportunity to join a hunting lease etc. I live in Central Florida (Seminole County). Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome , find the nearest non quota WMA to your house and put some miles on the boots and get to know it . Get there early and leave at dark . Sit and glass open fields , climb a tree or with treestand and see what the game does . Scouting is the key .

Thanks for the advice! I am still trying to work through all the regulations for public land use.

First off, welcome to the madness.
Secondly, there are a lot of good guys on here that are successful public land hunters and are more than willing to share advice.
Me? I'm no good to ya'. I gave up competing on public land and went the lease route and have hunted the same ground for the last 11 years. I would know where to send you other than Ocala. Been lots of guys cut their teeth there. I only managed to cut myself on smilac vines and saw palmetto while hunting there.

Oh, and pay no attention to the moaners and groaners on here. They could find a cloud in any silver lining.

    Again, welcome.

Thanks so much for the greeting as well as the heads up on the dark clouds! I hunted 3 different leases in Louisiana, it was difficult swamp lanes and offer a definite challenge. Looking forward to heading into the woods here.

Screw scouting deer. Scout down4dacount, pattern him, find where he lives, eats, and WHAT WMA he hunts. Jim Rockford style! :grin

Nah, Down4dacount's food choices would leave me wanting. I'd head up to Thomas' place and ride his hip pocket. Lol!

Ranger, of you can get on the computer at 10am sharp on weekdays, get familiar with the redraw system. You can pick up a good tag that way. Let me know if you have any questions. I know Rock springs is good in that area is good, but haven't between there. Generally, less hunts and hunters is better.
