Ponce on a ledge, the sounder was lit up. Somethings gonna happen. Out with my daughter, Taylor 12, son 20 and his friend Tyler. We decided a couple months back to go after some female jr. world records and so we set up the gear and got the rules then set out to give it a shot. Why not
Friday July 25th 11:32am I watched Taylor drop a livey to the bottom and wait for the bite, as she concentrated heavily on the rod tip, even after the snapper had played with it for a minute or two. She was on top of it. I watched her face full of intent and her posture at the ready with hand on the reel. No further bite came after the first couple of hits. I said, "maybe you should drop down a little more and she interupted and said "no, no, no...she'es still there I know it" so I shut up and watched as we both concentrated on the rod tip then....the rod tip just bent straight down, her face turned red and all of her effort when into turning the reel and it was on. Hook up! She was right she was still there. The 15 minute battle began. At first she couldn't budge the fish, so much that she thought she might be caught on the bottom but she kept the line tight and fought through the pain of pure heaviness from a 100lbs female 12 year old on Penn Torque with the drag nailed down and line going the wrong direction. We put the harness on her where she could put the rod butt in it (which was a risky time as we could not help her) and get some leverage and she then was able to slowly but surely get the fish off the bottom before putting the rod back in the armpit for the steady retrieve. Imagine my overwhelming fatherly pride when I saw it in the water coming up (that white where you know what it is) and she was sweating and asking what it was as she couldn't see it yet and I knew what she had done.:banana I couldn't speak for a few seconds once we had it in the net. What a great moment to share with my little fishin buddy as she was all smiles, hugs and high fives. We weighed it with the boga several different times on the boat which told the story but needed to get official weight so we get to New Smyrna Marina and fortunately they had Certified Scales and Capt Jay and the crew helped out all around. They helped us weigh and measure to confirm our excitement that Taylor had potentially the new pending Junior Female World Record for the biggest Red Snapper caught by a female 11- 16. Old record was from 2006 and was 24lbs. Taylors weighed in at 26lbs 8 years later.
She earned every second of it and abided by all the rules to qualify. Submitting all pics and info to IGFA tomorrow.

We had the same thing with plenty of greenies on the boat this snapper season. A ton of missed fished or fish that came off by these guys. Everyone wants to do there own way instead of listening. Taylor has listened and learned over the past 5 years she has been going out and understands that you can't make a mistake or "complain" like grown men. :rotflmao
