Vibrio in Vero

Just saw on channel 5 news that they detected Vibrio in water at Riverview park in Vero.
Gabby Barbarite from Harbor Branch in Ft Pierce is studying the water samples that contain 5 types of vibrio.
If you go to Channel 5 news website I'm sure you can probably see the footage.
This is not good for fisherman...especially for you guys who catch catfish since they seem to most commonly have the vibrio on them.

Guess I could google it...what is Vibrio? Just a shame of the water quality in the IRL...especially in the North end of the county, which unfortunately is all I see.

Vibrio Vulnificus is a bacteria that can lead to amputations...or death...

I stepped on a catfish back in the 90's- resulted in a two week hospital stay- foot surgery- swelling up to my thigh- and an interview with CDC all from Vibrio- almost lost my foot. On a side note- I was part of the 33rd Fighter wing at Eglin AFB and it kept me out of Saudi during the Khobar towers bombing. It happened in Destin two days before I shipped out.

Hard to believe something like that can be called "lucky"...but sounds like it was for you.

It is NO JOKE...my wife is in a tizzy because I fish every day...which I suppose increases your risk just due to increased chance of contact.

The father of a friend of mine got it from a piece of farm machinery. You don't have to be fishing.
