Almost Nuthin' Offshore Jupiter 6-28

Well, Team LA (the Mrs. and I) had high hopes of some serious fin action. Rigged some ballys, got everything ready with the gear and boat...and probably most importantly up at 5AM and on the boat running through the inlet by crack of just after 6 something, to a beautiful sunrise. Went to our livie bait spot with a few other boats there...ok, the first NUTHIN of the day, could not believe it, we gave up after about 30 minutes. Headed out to about 515 feet found some decent weed patches stacked up, we had already passed through multiple smaller patches but felt we needed to get deeper. Trolled with our bally spread, clear the weeds, trolled, repeat, you guys know the drill...and NUTHIN...ugh! Played this game for over an hour and then setup a drift on a bigger patch...threw out some chunks and some sardines on free lines, not much to show but yes, the smaller rod hooks up to ...yup...you know it...peanuttty mahi...darn, fun fight nonetheless (no pics), released to grow bigger. Tried throwing the butterfly jig for awhile, still no luck...headed in shallower, repeat same drill, no tuna or mahi or...well...you know... still NUTHIN. By now it is almost 1115AM, radio darn quiet to boot, only heard more peanuts caught in 600, really surprised but that is FISHIN. We then headed way shallow to try some bottom spots, still zippo, nada NUTHIN except a ton of throwback fish which yes yield some action and some may keep but we do not. HUGE barjacks, major grunts, a few triggers, multiple porgies, some sand eels and a decent speckled hind but always want them bigger and released. Finally decided to hit up one area which is tough to setup on as you usually drift over it quickly, we worked it for awhile as there was very little drift and scored several decent yellowtails and a few nice lane snapper. Was absolutely CRAZY to twice witness huge Goliath Groupers chasing our tails near the surface, so bummed I did not have video of this. Anyway, NUTHIN led to SOMETHIN at the end of the day. Enjoy your Sunday and God Bless!
