Home Panhandle General Fishing & The Outdoors

Had a good start to our Saturday fishing the Big Bend Classic. Boated the winning red grouper fairly early but when we switched to Kingfish mode things went down hill fast. I had run out of time in preparing for the event and failed to change the 15-20 test mono on my Kingfish was all rotten! We lost smoker after smoker.
Tried using some of the heavier tackle on the boat and the bite shut down.....
Bringing this 29.85 lb Red Grouper to the scales did ease my pain a just little.

HOLY BAT CRAPMAN!!! That thing is a pig! Wow. One of the biggest I've seen. I watched one come over the rail of a headboat here one time back in the mid-90s that was 31#. That fish you caught is freakin' awesome. Straight up tourney winner right there.

Sorry to hear about the kings. I bet you keep some spare line on board from here on out. ;-)

Thanks everyone. I donated the fish to the charity auction they had after the awards ceremony. I'm sure it brought a good price. They take any fish that place and throw them on the floor of a refrigerated truck. Then they take them from Port St Joe to Carrabelle over night and they sit in the back of the truck until after the awards ceremony the next day. The quality of the fish certainly isn't what it would of been if they were packed in ice instead of laying in the open of that refrigerated box truck so I let them keep him. I know where some more are ;)

The King Rods have fresh line now for sure! We lost some huge kings (and possibly a huge check) :banghead
