Ask each and every one of them how they sleep at night. Every one of these folks live in a place that was once natural and then bull dozed for their own pleasure. Ask them how they feel about I75 and the Golden Gate developments and if the continued expansion of Naples is alright or if they plan on trying to halt any of that. More panthers are road killed than any other source of death to them. The Cape Sable sea sparrow isn't on the Cape any longer, therefore it must be extinct and gone. But Pimm and the likes will tell you otherwise. Tell these folks that you want to treatment of all exotic vegetation with the NPS to stop. Motorized vehicles are being used to do it off-road. Tell them that you believe the chemicals are toxic to so much more. Tell them that is should be stopped. Watch the look on their faces. They haven't a phucking clue.

If these bunny huggers are upset now they may have a stroke on June 19th when FWC takes action via Executive Order to open hunting in the Addition Lands as per agenda item 18 C on their agenda for that day in Ft Myers. http://myfwc.com/about/commission/commission-meetings/2014/june/17/agenda/

    Agenda Item 18 C

    Executive Order
Executive Order for Hunting on Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area. Staff will provide an update on the Hunting Management Plan and the incorporation of the Addition Lands into the WMA. In order to address the 2014-2015 hunting opportunity, a recommendation on establishing walk-in hunting and quotas will be presented.

So June 19 is the big day. Let's see what excuse they come up with now
  • binellishtrbinellishtr Posts: 8,797 Admiral
Maybe we start a phone call campaign to them..lil added heat
  • gladesmangladesman Posts: 1,362 Officer
FWC has a lot of sweat equity in opening hunting in the Addition. My belief is that they are fed up with the obstructionists enviros and they will do the right thing. Putting heat on them over this could upset the apple cart. After all these years and dotting many I's and crossing just as many T's they are confident they can defend their action in court if it comes to that.

This may be the time to let nature take it's course.

well then if they don't we open up season on them..

It is not the FWC that is causing any of the delays in hunting and some level of trails in the Addition Lands (or Big Cypress)...especially after they got burned with the 10,000 acre transfer several years ago that was promptly..."no hunting"...The FWC has little actual power in this situation involving Federal property. Despite pass bad actions....even the Federal staff, Ramos et al, supports a level of trails and hunting today....and the plan offered would be established in short order....

However, the Federal laws for parks, refuges....and the hybrid "reserves".....allow any nut case group to sue and throw wrenches into the process and delay progress for years...as we have sadly observed with the Addition Lands...Sooner or later if all of the supporters have the strength to last out the court cases the hunting will happen.....It took ten years to beat the anti hunting law suits trying to stop hunting on the National Wildlife Refuges....
  • binellishtrbinellishtr Posts: 8,797 Admiral
FWC is solely responsible for giving away 17k acres not 10 of our land...them and them alone. And we both know the back door politicking that went on. That was when THEY lost me and my support.

We were lied to going into that meeting, and I don't care what the reasons/motives were!

If the don't do the right thing now,and make it known out LOUD then they are just as much our enemy as the enviro whackos.

Disregard anything I may have alluded to previously regarding an executive order on this until proven to be accurate.

So how and when will they open an application period for the Addition Lands? What happens to those who already applied?

Haven't got a clue. May want to watch the FWC meeting - google Florida Channel on the right day and watch the meeting live or later.

Maybe they will go into details then.

    Otherwise we wait and see.

Only a couple of things, you have to thank the SC for trying to save the Everglades against the efforts of big sugar.
I don't agree with everything they say, but if we don't save the Glades we're toast.

Who or what is SC? Don't tell me Sierra Club!

That ought to win a lot of friends around here.

From what I've seen down here in the last many years they are probably more responsible for bad management practices than anyone due to their constant litigation getting in the way of much more proper management techniques by their obstructionist litigation tactics.

They didn't get their stupid Skyways 10 mile bridge on Tamiami Trail (99.9999% of the water flows underground duuhh) and they will not stop oil drilling in the Glades or FP&Lpower lines where needed. All they do is get in the way with their anti-human/hunting/ORV agenda, litigation etc. so as to claim false successes to get more $$$ dollars from sadly ignorant followers that are unaware of their real anti-human/hunting/ORV agenda.

Sierra is a very extreme group which few sportsmen I am aware of have one lick of respect for.

As far as saving the Glades goes a great portion of it is on it's way to being one big STA due to CERP and other stuff like that, that Sierra and others support.

Other vast landscapes South of Lake Okeechobee are already saved (won't be developed) such as Eglds Park, Big Cypress, OK Slough, Fakahatchee Strand, Picayune Strand (to be flooded by CERP guaranteed), Spirit of the Wild, Dinner Island etc. etc.

Sorry, but you really hit one of my buttons by praising this eco-freak group.

    Sierra Club = SC
  • gladesmangladesman Posts: 1,362 Officer
Yeah, I figured that out and had to edit/expand my previous post.
  • ScoutboatScoutboat Posts: 2,575 Captain
Glades, I thought that I said that I don't agree with all of their policies.
I don't know much about the bridge that you mentioned, although a bridge may make more sense than a long causeway for water flow.
I sure that they'd campaign for stopping the drilling for oil in the Glades or any where in Florida, offshore as well as on the land.
You don't have to be sorry to voice your opinion.
    Respectfully,
    Jim

    Agenda Item 18 C

    Executive Order
Executive Order for Hunting on Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area. Staff will provide an update on the Hunting Management Plan and the incorporation of the Addition Lands into the WMA. In order to address the 2014-2015 hunting opportunity, a recommendation on establishing walk-in hunting and quotas will be presented.

    Hello All,

Well, today (6-10-2014) I contacted FWC staff and asked if I had been seeing things on the upcoming FWC agenda a while back that led me to spread info that an executive order was going to be used to get hunting in the Addition.

It was bothering me that I had misinformed anyone.

Well I was told that I was NOT seeing things and that an executive order was specified in past agenda info under item 18 C on the past but subsequently amended on upcoming meeting agenda. It was later decided to run it through the normal rule process since there was enough time to get it done and hunt this year albeit just foot hunting with a loss of some archery days due to the schedule so the agenda was amended to reflect that under item 18 B (2).

This stuff can get very tricky to keep up with.

I for one appreciate whatever updates, and info you bring because THEY make it tricky and hard on peeons like us.
  • BatemasterBatemaster Posts: 1,701 Captain
What are you thinking? No quota?
  • binellishtrbinellishtr Posts: 8,797 Admiral
i'm thinking myFWC,not hunt florida had a chance to make an executive order, but chickened out of it...passed the buck to "the normal procedure". Hope i'm wrong, but only 22 people will get a foot only permit in the 150k acres.
  • gladesmangladesman Posts: 1,362 Officer
FWC is dotting the I's and T's twice on this to prevent interference with their pending decisions.

As far as quota permits go - it will be by quota permit only. The highest number I've heard will be available is 30 but that could be subject to minor change until the rule is set in concrete.

I am not worrying too much though because I don't think hunting there is a very big deal since it hasn't been managed much in 25+ years and some folks have been having their way with the place for many years meaning to me that the hunting there will be only average and not worth me sweating getting a quota there to go for a big buck.

The main issue in my mind is that somebody finally get to hunt there after being lag screwed by folks like Sierra club for many years.
