Feeding Deer Meat to my Dogs

Seems like every year I shoot too many Deer.
I've got about 3 Does and a Fawn that are getting Freezer Burn. I usually feed the Dogs 1 or 2 a year but since the Kids moved out I've just been throwing on the back Porch and letting the Catch Dogs have at it.:grin
Either that or it just Freezer Burns and I feed it to the Buzzards.:banghead
How do ya'll keep your Dog Venison fresh. :huh

I usually still have some vacuum sealed in the freezer from last season by the time I get some new stock.

Seems like if every year U shoot too many deer and throw it to the dogs because it has freezer burn.........maybe, just maybe, DONT SHOOT AS MANY DEER!!!! Just saying....

Mine gets freezer packed and lasts just fine, like was said above, usually the last one from last year gets eaten when the new one goes in.

If your consumption of deer meat is going down you can donate it to some needy family or have it turned into meat sticks. Never have had any meet sticks last a year or a problem in finding a family that is in need.

Why would you shoot a deer that you wouldn't eat? 6 deer is not enough to make it thru a year in my house.

Nothing wrong with feeding it to the dogs.

It's like training new puppies, just break a doe down in the back legs and let the pups catch her and chew on her awhile.
Hams get messed up from the shot and the dogs so ain't much left worth eating cept the backstrap.

What's wrong with feedin the Dogs some Deer meat ?
They gotta eat too and I've got plenty. Ever since my Pard bought some Farm land and got a De-predation Permit we've been shooting them every weekend. Crops just went into the ground and I've got a new AR with a Night Scope and a case of Ammo.
What better way to spend Saturday night then shootin any eyes in the field.
Dogs eat , I eat....winning..

There is a venison drop off station in Steinhatchee that will take non-freezer burnt meat.

6 deer a year...Sheesh, that's only 12 backstraps. I can eat that in a week. You ARE a wasteful person!

Some folks gut shoot hogs so they'll run off and they don't have to break a sweat dragging out of the food plot or away from the feeder.

It may not be the feeding some to the dogs but the feeling that the dogs would not eat it with freezer burn and throwing it to the buzzards. Remember your non hunting neighbors and fellow citizens will one day be voting to see if we can hunt. Give them a free meal and win a vote.

Ain't much of a problem there bgeorge cause the Non Huntin Neighbors are the ones askin us to stop by round Dark Thirty with the spotlight.

TRT FYI... better make sure your name is on the depredation permit if you are in Florida. Or it could get real expensive.
